Meet Addie - ADOPTED

NOTE;  TODAY ADDIE WAS ADOPTED!  HER NEW OWNER IS A WONDERFUL WOMAN WHO IS DEDICATED TO CONTINUING ADDIE'S HOLISTIC CARE AND I KNOW THAT ADDIE WILL THRIVE WITH HER.  ADDIE CAME BROKEN AND WEAK AND SHE HAS LEFT STRONG AND BEAUTIFUL. THANK YOU SUE FOR BEING THE ANGEL THAT ADDIE NEEDS TO SPEND THE REST OF HER LIFE WITH.
Her new owner is a wonderful woman who is dedicated to continuing Addie's holistic care and I know she will thrive.  Addie came to me broken and weak and she has left strong and beautiful.  There will be a place in my heart for her forever..... Meet Addie. She is a pure bred Lhasa Apso about 7 years old, 20 pounds and is just about the most perfect dog ever. Addie LOVES people and is fine with all other dogs her size and bigger and fine with cats.

Addie really loves life. She never misses her morning walks to the barn, loves to go in the car and spends every minute at your feet. She rarely barks, is house trained and doesn't need a crate. In foster she uses a doggie door but is fine with regularly being let out. She only gets on furniture when asked. Addie is a perfectly mannered little velcro dog! She has gone on several trips with us and is the perfect traveler and house guest.

I suppose with a dog that has perfect manners you are wondering what her special need is -- well, Addie is vision impaired. She can see some but does not see well and has depth perception problems. Addie has a condition called "dry eye" which means that she does not produce tears. She needs her eyes wiped out several times a day and a very small amount of a product called Optimune in both eyes twice daily. She gets on drop of over the counter tear replacement in the afternoon.

We were very fortunate to get Addie into rescue. She was in a rural pound and a volunteer called to say they had a dog that needed "a little help." When we got there it was more then "a little" help. Addie's eyes were matted shut and she had a lot of hair missing. Of course we took her into rescue. We then found out that she is almost completely blind in one eye and her sight limited in the other. We also found out that this is one super dog. She has been well loved and cared for by someone before she fell on hard times. She tilts her head up for her eye drops and is very good with her baths and loves being brushed. Addie came without a name but in short order learned her new one and is always there when you call.

Addie would make the prefect motor home dog. She loves to travel and rarely barks. When Addie first came into rescue we were headed on vacation and because she needed extra care we took her with us. She road in the motor home like a queen and laid outside with us when we were in the campgrounds. She was the prefect traveling companion and has gone with us many times since. Addie does need a little special care. More of that care is what she doesn't get then what she does. Addie gets a prescription gel in her eyes morning and night, eats a good diet with some supplements and is bathed once a week. She DOESN'T get any flea or heartworm preventative and no vaccines as they are toxic for her and Addie's compromised immune system can't handle it. Addie's quality of life depends on her adopter continuing this care plan.

Addie will adjust quickly to her new home. She lives in a home with a lot of activity, where things can appear where they weren't before and she adjusts well. Because of her vision problems she will need a single story home. Addie needs a home where someone is retired, working from home or can take a dog to work. She needs a fenced yard so that she can be out and be safe.

Every once in a while a dog comes into rescue that reminds us why we do what we do. Addie is that dog. She has never missed a beat, never grumped about one thing, never lost her sense of fun and always, always just wants to be with you.

Addie has been in rescue for many months, her care routine is now firmly established and she is ready for her new home. Her skin problem has been corrected with diet and her eye condition is cared for with daily treatment.

Addie has years of companionship to offer and companionship is the one thing that she does the very best! If you feel that your lifestyle and environment met Addie's needs please click on the Star-Mar Rescue link below her pictures and read about our program and our adoption requirement.
