NOTES FROM FOSTER FAMILY:

Lily is a super sweet little girl that loves to snuggle, give kisses and in general people with her family. She really enjoys playing with other dogs and with her toys. She definitely needs another playful and active dog in the home - preferably one of similar size.

Lily came to us heartworm positive. After visiting with the vet they felt that she would do better on the "slow kill" method of treatment instead of using the 3 shot protocol of Immicide due to her small size as well as her love of playing! What this means is that she will continue with getting her normal Heartguard once a month (as all dogs do) and then every 3rd month she will receive Doxycycline for one month (so one month on, 2 months off) - this will need to continue until she tests heartworm negative which could be anywhere from 12-24 months from now typically. She can play and have most normal activity although she should not "over do it" especially in the heat, etc. She does need to be monitored to make sure no complications would arise.

Lily would need to be heartworm tested 12 months from the start of her treatment and then at least every 6 months after that until she tests negative at which time she would discontinue the Doxycyclline regimen.
