Meet NY-Charley ADOPTED!

LOCATED IN NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YORK

MEET CHARLEY!-A handsome 18 month old Labradoodle boy in need of a new "furever" home and family. He is 60 lbs and he has a beautiful soft, fleece non-shedding coat that will require regular grooming every 6-8 weeks.

Charley is a very special boy with a lot of love to give. When his previous owners relocated they surrendered poor Charley to rescue explaining they were unable to bond with him and he needed a different kind of home than they were able to provide. His foster has made a few discoveries about Charley and reports: "Charley is a beautiful boy with a kind and gentle soul. He is an adorable, well-mannered pup who just needs the right home and family. He is sweet as can be completely trained and trustworthy in a home. He has no bad habits, not an aggressive bone in his body and basically loves everyone. He is great with all other dogs, cats, rabbits etc. and really has no issues other than he must be in a home with another well-mannered dog or dogs for company."

Charley is a fun-loving and full of personality when he is around other dogs. He will seek human attention and affection and happily do just about anything you ask of him. He is an easy going "pleaser." But when in a situation where he is the only dog in the house, he becomes a completely different dog. He is uncertain, aloof and becomes introverted to the point where he seeks solace by himself in a corner or beneath a table. We have seen this behavior many times before and are certain this is due to Charley's origins and lack of socialization with humans.

Purchased at 16 weeks of age from a notorious commercial pet store chain, Charley is undoubtably a puppy mill survivor. What this means is that more than likely he was taken from his mother and his litter mates at too young of an age and had little to no human interaction in his formative months. His early experiences were only with other dogs. Like all mill survivors, Charley becomes uncertain without another dog around to lead by example. His foster mom says: "Please don't misunderstand. Charley is literally exceptional with all humans. He listens and responds accordingly. But his actions seem almost robotic and he becomes depressed and detached without canine companionship.

"Charley lights up the moment he sees another dog. It's amazing to watch the transformation. He mimics the behavior of other dogs. If a dog initiates rough play, Charley will play on the same level. If he is left to decide the play level, he will always opt for the gentle and sweet approach. If his playmate happens to be a small dog, Charley seems to sense this and adjusts his enthusiasm to cause no harm. He has no food or toy aggression, has eaten side by side with other dogs with no issues. He tends to be submissive and even lets other dogs as well as humans take toys and bones right from his mouth.

Charley is wonderful with all people, other dogs, cats and age-appropriate children. He must have a patient dog-experienced family, another well mannered dog or dogs for company and a fenced in yard with room to romp and play. We prefer that the fence be stockade or PVC and a minimum of 6' in height. Always up for a good challenge, Charley can be a bit of an escape artist when inspired. He is neutered micro-chipped, and UTD on all vaccines and preventatives. Charley will be the perfect, canine companion for the right family.
