SUGA NEEDS A LOVING PERMANENT HOME!!!!

Name: Suga   Breed: Dachsund mix

Approximate Age: 2-3 years

Approximate Weight: 20 pounds

Currently Living at: Foster Home. Please adopt Suga!

Hey there! My name is Suga....that's right. Suga with no r. You could argue it's because of my southern roots, or because I make you want to sing that song from the 1960s (suga, ohhh honey honey, you are my candy giiirl!). Whatever the reason for my name's unconventional spelling, I think you will find it is because I am both sweet and unique!

So, a little bit about me: my previous owner couldn't give me the care I needed to be the happy, healthy girl I deserve to be, so I found myself at a South Carolina shelter, and found myself awfully scared. Thankfully, some nice people from Lucky Dog Animal Rescue saw through my scaredness to all the love I have inside, and brought me to DC to find my family. They know I am part Dachsund because of my long body, but I am mixed with something, or somethings else...no one seems to know what, but you'll have lots of fun trying to guess if you adopt me! I'm somewhere between 2-3 years old, which means I am all done growing. This means you can expect me to stay right around my current weight of 20 lbs with a healthy diet and some light exercise in the form of playtime and/or daily walks.

I should let you know that because of my hard start in life I am a little shy at first. If you've met me at an adoption event, I may have been a little standoffish, but please don't take it personally. It took my foster parents some time to win me over too, but now I love to be wherever they are, and get SO excited when they come home from work that I wag my whole body and smile from ear to ear. We love to take walks together and as you can see in my photos, I love to snuggle on the couch or next to them in bed while they read. But when it's time for me to go to sleep I go to my crate and snooze through the night.

My foster parents and doggie foster brother have been very patient and encouraging as they have worked to earn my trust, which has been a big help for me since I got to DC, as you can see by the way my smile has emerged in my photos! I just hope my new forever family will help me continue to develop my confidence and trust the people around me. To make sure that I do, I must go to an adoptive home that already has a confident, friendly dog to help me learn from, to know the world isn't so scary, and to keep me company when my people go out. Also, loud noises and sudden movements really scare me, and young kids just can't help but move fast and be loud. So I also need to go to a home with children who are at least 12 years old. I live with 2 cats in my foster home and do fine with them. Sometimes I chase them because my doggie foster brother does and I like to follow his lead, but I back off with 'back off' swat!

I am still learning some stuff that I didn't really do much of in my life before Lucky Dog, like how to play with toys, but I really enjoy games of chase and wrestle with my doggie foster brother (check out our video below!). I also love to run around and play. Trips to the dog park used to be really overwhelming, but as I keep going, I am finding they are actually a lot of fun. I'm actually a very silly little lady once I get comfortable at home, and am always making my foster parents laugh with my sunny and funny personality. Once we are all played out, my foster brother and I enjoy curling up next to each other in one of our crates or on the couch next to our people.

Now that I know what it's like to get lots of love, cuddles, delicious meals, treats, structure, playtime, and a nice warm bed in my foster home, I think I am ready to go to my forever family. I will make a great playmate, snuggle buddy, and sister to another canine companion. It may take a little patience at first, but if you promise me a safe and loving home for the rest of my life, I promise you a lifetime of love and devotion. If you think you're the family for me, please download a Lucky Dog Adoption Questionnaire and email it to my foster mom, Lynn, at lynnh@luckydoganimalrescue.org

Hope to hear from you soon!
Suga

Like most shelter dogs, Suga may need a refresher on housetraining. She is doing well with crate training in her foster home.

The adoption fee for this dog is $300, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Lynn at lynnh@luckydoganimalrescue.org
