ADOPTED 01-07-12 Meet Gus! This little cutie was brought in as a stray to a high kill shelter in Louisiana. After his 7 day hold, he was going to be put down simply because he preferred staying in his warm dogloo as opposed to greeting shelter visitors....ummm, during the cold weather we don't blame him! Sadly, overpopulated public pounds in the south must make life or death decisions every day and a dog who won't come out of his dog house won't be seen by adopters and is taking up precious kennel space. Thanks to PAWS of NE LA, a southern group who works with the local pound and northern rescue groups, Gus was saved and is now looking for a loving home up north!

Here is a video of Gus the day he was rescued from the pound: GUS VIDEO

Gus is 25#, 2 years old and appears to be a Corgi mix. He has adorable scruffy fur that seems to be low shedding. He is neutered, current on vaccinations, negative for heartworm and intestinal worms and on monthly prevention. Gus walks well on leash, likes to ride in the car and gets along with other dogs.

When you ask anyone that has met him, they all say that Gus is a doll. His foster mom tells us that you couldn't ask for a more perfect pup! He was already housebroken when he arrived at his foster home and in addition, he is crate trained, great with kids and other dogs!

Gus’s loves to wonder around the backyard and explore the outside with his new foster sister Bella. The reason is obvious, he has never had that and it is like being in heaven for him. If Gus's new adopters do not have a fenced yard, he will need to be walked on a leash as he enjoys the outdoors so very much.

He is wonderful with his foster family’s 2 dogs. One of the dogs is he lives with is older and has almost no energy, and the other is 2 years old with LOTS of energy. Gus is perfectly with both. He does run and play with our younger pup, but then takes a nap with the older one. He loves life, everything and everyone.

When a dog is good with other dogs, that is good but when a dog is also good with children, it tells us so much more about the dog. When Gus first arrived at his foster home, he immediately went straight to my 10 year old who was in the floor doing his homework. Gus slicked his ears back and went straight to snuggle up with him. There are a total of 3 children that live under this roof of fur and laughter, they range in age from 5 to 15, and Gus is perfectly sweet to all of them!!

Gus is very affectionate, playful and is not overly enteric. He's is a quiet guy but you will greeted with a lick or two and a wagging tail when you walk in the door. We don’t know how he is with cats because the family does not own a cat however, given the fact that he is so happy and good with dogs, cats should not be a problem. However, cats and dogs each have their own personality and if his new family has a cat, the family would need to be a confident strong pack leader and make sure that everyone is safe. Most of the time, depending on the individual characteristics, the cat wins and the dog and cat work out their position in the family pack.

In summary, Gus is good in the car, crate, on the leash, good with children and dogs and has no food issues. His foster believes that Gus would be perfectly fine in any number of households. He would be fine with children and without children. While he enjoys being outside with the other dogs, she feels like he would be fine without and said a fenced yard would be ultimate place for his to explore. Like we said, Gus loves life and who wouldn’t given the road he has had to walk to get to where he is. Gus has a laid back personality and is a happy pup to be around! A trustworthy dog like Gus is dog that will fill your life with love and memories that will last for a lifetime. He won’t be available long, fill out an application right away.

OUR DOGS ARE MICRO-CHIPPED AND READY TO BE PART OF YOUR FAMILY TODAY!

ABOUT OUR RESCUE

These dogs deserve all of our attention, and in Rescue Dog Village, we are committed to our adopters and our dogs equally. We offer full disclosure and hope to make the best matches possible. Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.

Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It's sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their re-homing, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don't want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It's that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that's our goal! .

Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WE'VE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history! .

Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you'll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can't continue rescue if we don't do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING. .

Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family's eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you've submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well.

APPLICATION: If you've got the time and love to offer this extremely bright dog who can make you laugh for hours at his antics, click the link and fill out our easy to use ONLINE APPLICATION Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE! .

ALL interested adopters MUST complete an application; agree to a vet reference check, phone interview and home visit. ALL family members MUST be in attendance for home visits - no exceptions. This helps us get to know everyone in the family so that we can help find the right dog for you. .

Disclaimer: Please note that the breeds posted on our dogs' biographies are our best guess based on years of working with rescue dogs. Adopters who need to know the exact breed or mix of breeds of a particular dog must have the dog's DNA tested at their own expense.
