Meet Jean Kelly
Jean Kelly is a one year old black and white girl who was born with significant neurological deficits in a litter of otherwise normal kittens. The owner surrendered her to AFOC as a young kitten, in order for her to receive medical evaluation and treatment. But, as she grew and with good nutrition, her physical condition improved somewhat. She no longer falls as she walks, however, although her limbs are still somewhat uncoordinated, she walks pretty well, but her rear end falls frequently when she runs. Her front wrists sometimes go limp, and there are a few accommodations she needs. She is able to climb up carpeted stairs, but does not have the physical coordination to come down more than one or two steps safely, so this limits the physical space she can safely occupy in her adoptive home. She does not jump or climb on furniture at all. Jeannie is usually friendly and gets along with other non-aggressive cats. Occasionally, she can show an aggressive streak, but normally settles down soon after; it appears just to be her way of interacting. She is very good buddies with Wink. They occasionally wrestle together. Usually, she just acts like she’s happy to be alive!
