February 2012 update:

Zorro visited the vet last week for his yearly check-up and blood work, and we're extremely pleased (but not at all surprised) to report that his results were clear across the board. This is one happy, healthy, spunky senior Schnoodle!

And now, a few words from Zorro’s foster mom:

Zorro was surrendered to rescue by his former owners because they moved and could not take him with them. He was very confused about the transition so late in his life, but he has been making huge improvements over the last three months and his progress makes us very proud. You’d never know he was 13 years young! Everyone is always so shocked that he’s not a puppy because he has so much spunk and attitude.

Zorro enjoys walks and can move just as quickly as a young dog, but truthfully he prefers to be home sniffing around, chewing on bones and hanging with his family. Zorro is a bit shy with strangers and does take some time to warm up to them, but we found that he bonded very quickly and with our immediate family who he spends quite a bit of time with. He is still a little timid in new situations, and can be nervous around aggressive or dominant dogs and cats, so friendly, easy-going furry house mates would be ideal. He is currently living with a 50 lb. terrier and they get along well, and he has grown fond of the resident cats who like to follow him around.

Zorro would do best in a home where someone is home part of the day, or where someone could pop home at lunch to check on him and let him out. Once he is comfortable in his new surroundings and in a routine, he could reasonably be alone a normal working day (8 hours) without issue (and is doing fantastic in his pee pad training), but would need time to adjust and get into a routine before this would be possible in a new home.

Zorro would be fine as an only pet or with other quiet, gentle dogs/cats. He would probably enjoy the company of another small, senior dog, or one that can match his energy level and isn’t too “rough”.

Zorro really is a sweet, funny, quirky little guy and we just love his personality. He will make the right new family extremely happy.  We laugh every day over his hilarious antics and his clumsiness, and if you give this senior a chance to win your heart you won’t regret it.

We are happy to answer any and all questions you have about Zorro. Please visit his foster mom’s blog at http://www.digbyandsassy.net for more photos and information. Zorro is waiting!
