This is Alvin. He was born in July, 2011. He was found under a porch in Albany with his mom and 5 siblings. He was lucky someone found him and took him in right before Hurricane Irene hit. He adjusted well to his foster home, and now lives in our FIV colony at the Whiskers shelter. He is a bundle of energy. He loves to play with other cats, but runs to get attention when someone walks in the room. He will win your heart with his purring as he tries to climb up your leg for some snuggle time. He loves to sit on laps! when you are sleeping. He is a sweet boy. Alvin did test positive for FIV, as did his mom.  FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. It is a lentivirus, meaning that it progresses very slowly, gradually affecting a cat's immune system. It is passed through blood transfusions and through serious, penetrating bite wounds. FIV cats usually live long and healthy lives as long as they are kept up-to-date on vaccinations and any illnesses that develop are treated aggressively. Whiskers cats and kittens are ALL rescued from the surrounding CAPITAL DISTRICT. All of Whiskers' cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, age appropriately vaccinated and tested for FELV/FIV prior to adoption. Click here for our Online Application
