Meet Natasha

Hi, my new name is Natasha and I was born in the Summer of 2010 (probably). Some folks think I am a "Tamaskan" dog. And who knows? Maybe I am! My old owner had given me an ugly name (Radar, what kind of name is that for a beautiful girl like me), and was going to SHOOT me cause he didn't want me anymore!! Thank goodness a nice lady saved me and called Animal Allies to help me out. I'm now in my foster home with my foster brother Bubba and an alien species called cats (I just ignore them). Bubba gave me a tour of the backyard and I smelled every bush and blade of grass, and then we came in cause it's waaayyy too hot right now to be outside. I followed my new foster mom around for awhile and then I got in the bathtub for a nap!! I'm up to date on my shots and just got fixed , but I do have nasty heartworms, so treatment is ahead for me to get rid of those nasty things. Right now I'm on preventive medications that will kill baby heartworms and the parasites that live on adult heartworms (boy, am I getting an education on dog stuff!!), and then I'll have my treatment and rest for awhile, and then be 100%.

My old owner was abusive to me, but I'm already feeling more confident and secure, and I've figured out that no one is going to ever hurt me again...I'm getting only soft words and pats, and I've even traveled in the car with my head on a lady's lap and I gave her sweet kisses, so that shows I'm a fast study on this affection idea. I'm a little too skinny right now (67 lbs), but should soon be back to my ideal weight when I hit 75 lbs. I don't know too much about playing yet, but I do love my stuffed bunny...I don't eat it, just carry it around and love on it.

Well, that's the story of ME!! I'm looking forward to being in a forever home, but only if there is love and kindness..I've already seen the other side of people and I didn't like it at all.

Note from AAT: Many people wrongly assume that heartworms are contagious...not true! Dogs (and cats) get heartworm from the bite of an infected mosquito. HW is easily prevented with a monthly chewable preventive tablet. Natasha will undergo treatment in 3 months, but you are welcome to meet her prior to that time. When we first saw her, she sat in the vet exam room with her head hanging between her legs, terrified, and obviously waiting to be hit. She is already much more confident, rides well in the car (though she shakes!!), and is exploring her new world. We can't imagine why someone would mistreat this beautiful and gentle dog...we often despair at the treatment some of our animals have endured. We have a cat that someone tried to skin alive, animals thrown against walls as part of domestic disturbances, etc. Speak up for animals...they cannot speak for themselves!! Become part of the solution by fostering a needy dog or cat today...help Animal Allies make a world of difference, one dog or one cat at a time.
