A little bit of loving attention will turn Frances into your friend for life. This precious little girl has never had a home of her own. We can only guess at her heritage; her ears indicate she may be part Papillion, and she has a long, sleek body like a dachshund. However, she sheds very little, if at all. She has an absolutely gorgeous glossy black coat with feathering around her ears, a gorgeous plumed tail, and a white ruff around her neck. Frances was rescued from a hoarding situation at the age of 8 months, and up until then had known little, if any, human interaction. She is still timid, and it scares her to be picked up, but she responds well to attention and has made tremendous progress since coming into rescue. She likes to play with her paws and will bat at your hands like a cat. Frances needs somebody with patience to let her get comfortable in a new home and to spend lots of time touching and...
Frances needs somebody with patience to let her get comfortable in a new home and to spend lots of time touching and holding her. Frances is fairly well housetrained with a doggie door, but she does not react well to being crated for any length of time and will soil her crate if left for more than a couple of hours. If left for any length of time, she does better in a gated kitchen or other small room. She is rather petite at a mere 12 pounds, which should be her adult weight since she has just had her first birthday. Frances still has many puppy characteristics and loves toys, but she will need supervision so that she only plays with her own. She is a gentle little dog and likes other small dogs, but she is easily overwhelmed and frightened by rough play. Frances would also do just fine as an only pet as long as someone was home with her during at least part of the day. Frances has been spayed, brought up to date on her shots, tested negative for heartworms and started on preventative. She will not be placed in a home with children under the age of 10 or with a dog weighing more than 25 pounds. Her adoption donation is negotiable for the right dog-knowledgeable person with the patience to understand her needs. She is being fostered in Birmingham, Alabama. We do approve out of state adoptions, but the adopter must be willing to drive to the foster home to fetch the new family member. We do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting this sweet baby, the first step is to submit an
APPLICATION.
We do not place any dog in a home with "invisible" or underground fencing.
