UPDATE   Aug 19th - Abuelo is a hero Recent x-rays show that some years ago Abuelo suffered broken bones that were never treated. The vet thinks that he was either hit by a car or kicked repeatedly. It breaks your heart to think about, doesn't it! The trauma resulted in fractures in 2 places in his lower spin, a broken pelvis & damage to  his right knee & leg. It's amazing that he survived, healed & carried on! You have to be tough to be a homeless dog!   With age arthritis has set in to the damaged areas, causing pain. He's now on pain & anti inflammatory meds & I see a great improvement in less then a day.He will need to be on meds from here on in & be regularly monitored by his vet.He is such a loving, sweet dog that it's worth it to have him pain free & sharing your life. This morning he's nearly back to his old self; looking out the window to see if there are any chippies or squirrels in the yard that need chasing & doing his happy dance in anticipation of breakfast. He continues to enjoy his walks, chewing on bones or licking at peanut butter & banana kongs, sleeping at our feet & getting lots of petting & loving. He even enjoys his bath & let's me clean his teeth.   His house training was interrupted for a while because he was in pain but we're back on track now & making great progress!   His melting spaniel eyes & his gentle, laid-back personality will make this boy a welcome addition to any loving family. If you think you're that family please fill out an application to-day.
And now, a few words from me: Once I had a mom then one day she was gone & I was turned out into the streets. I wandered around for a very long time trying to find enough food to keep me going & missing the loving home I'd once had. One day a kind person saw me & took me in. Then I went on a plane ride & now here I am in Canada. Wow, it's really different here, but I like it. Now all I need is a new mom or dad to love me & I will be completely happy.

And now, a few words from my foster mom: Abuelo is the sweetest, calmest boy you will ever meet. He was put out with the trash when his elderly owner died. He wandered the streets alone & unloved for 18 months. Eventually he was lucky enough to be rescued & transported to us so that he could have a second chance at a happy life. He's settling in faster then any foster dog I've ever had. He seems to realize how lucky he was to escape life on the streets. He started following me from room to room almost from the moment we brought him home. When I settle into a chair he patiently lies down nearby & takes a nap. He loves to be petted but he's not pushy about it. He'll wait til you reach out to scratch his chin or give him a pat; sooo sweet.

He's already learned our feeding & walking routines. He does the cutest happy dance while I'm getting his food ready & rolls around on the rug after feeding in pure delight. He'll make you laugh with his adorable antics & the little grunts of pleasure that he makes. When it's time to go outside he sits near the door to be leashed. He is very good on his walks & if he pulls all that's needed is a little tug to bring him back to "heel".

He takes treats with a very gentle mouth. He likes to chew on Nyla bones & Kongs. While he's missing some teeth the ones he has are in very good shape.

He's crate trained & sleeps the night thru without a peep.

We're working on his house training & he already seems to be catching on.

He greets all dogs his size & smaller very politely, but does not seem to like bigger dogs. He'll growl & even bark at them, out of fear, there's no aggression involved. He's already made peace with our 65 lb Lab. I can only imagine how many times bigger dogs stole food from him when he lived on the street.

Abuelo would do best as an only dog or with a small furry companion. I'm sure he would be very good with older respectful children. This is a kind & gentle hearted dog that deserves & craves a family of his own to love & be loved for the rest of his days. Cocker Spaniels can live for up to 15 years so Abuelo still has a lot to offer to the right family. If you think you have a place in your heart for Abuelo please fill out an application form. You will not be sorry!
