URGENT! SAVE MAE!!!!

Mae is a spayed, two year old mastiff mix. Several have suggested that she's a neopolitan mastiff mix, although we can't be sure. Right now she's a very thin 80 lbs. She probably should weight about 90-95 lbs. Mae was obtained from a pound by Buckeye Service Dogs with the hopes that she might be used as a therapy dog. In the process of evaluating her as a therapy dog prospect, BSD found out Mae is heartworm positive. Because Mae is such a sweet dog, we have decided to treat her heartworms, rather than send her back to the pound where she would be euthanized.

Mae is a very, very sweet dog! She'd happily sit with her head in your lap gazing into your eyes all day! She is housebroken, knows quite a bit of obedience, and walks well on lead. She's good with other dogs, even when they pass by her when she's eating. Unknown about cats. She's crate trained, and up to date on all her vaccinations. She came to us with several other health conditions, they have all been treated. She will be ready for adoption after she undergoes the final part of her heartworm treatment (around July 22). She will need to be kept as quiet as possible for 8 weeks after heartworm treatment.

Mae has one fault - she gets fearful at the vets office or when they poke and prod at her in ways that scare her (ie, first time we trimmed her nails). She has snapped twice at the vet's due to fear. We have only seen this behavior during medical procedures, and we believe she can be worked with. However, due to this issue, Mae is not recommended for a household with children (who might step on her paws or tail). Mae would be a GREAT pet for a single person or couple who are experienced with large dogs.

Here's a short video of Mae. Her hair is a bit thin due to a flea allergy (gone now), but, with continued TLC she'll be a BEAUTIFUL brindle girl!

Mae really just needs the right person to give her a chance at a good life. She clearly didn't have one before coming to us.

BSD must place Mae by August 1, or we will have to turn her in to a shelter, due to space constraints.

Adoption Fee: $250 (we have spent more than $700 on Mae)

If you are a rescue group and want to take Mae, you can take her for rehoming at no charge.
