Meet Dakota

June 9, 2011: Dakota was adopted.

This is Dakota, a 4-5 year old friendly Husky cross looking for a family of her own. She is incredibly easy-going and friendly with pretty much everyone she meets; dogs, cats, people and children. Sweet and gentle, she wants nothing more than some loving and attention from the people around her.

This gal was found as a stray but we can tell she was treated well at some point in her life because she's such a lovely girl. She likes people and is quite gentle about receiving attention. She doesn't jump up, she waits nicely for pets and appreciates a good belly rub. She shows her thanks with sweet kisses and a look of sincere gratitude in her unique eyes (one eye has a blaze of white... very distinctive!) So far in foster care she has been a perfect girl, nothing has fazed her and she's just gone with the flow. She is a pleasure to be around; well behaved in the house and everywhere else too.

Dakota is not a typical high energy Husky. In foster care, she is content to let the young dogs run around like loonies while she toodles around exploring or relaxing in a shady spot on the lawn. Sometimes she joins in the wrestling and chasing but not usually for too long. She's been there and done that already in her life! Don't get us wrong, just because she's laid back doesn't mean she isn't playful. She does enjoy the odd game of fetch, especially if it's her squeaky toy. She LOVES to make it squeak! It's quite cute the way she pushes it with her nose repeatedly to hear the sound. Kinda silly actually!

Dakota likes to go for walks and has nice leash manners. Her exercise needs are moderate and she would be content with walks around the neighbourhood and the odd dog park trip. While at the park, she enjoys the company of other dogs and plays nicely with them. She could easily join a family with other dogs. She's nice about pretty much everything in life, though at times she prefers to keep her squeaky toy to herself (but she is in no way aggressive to any person or dog).

Not much bothers this mellow gal; she's just a calm and quiet dog. She would be an ideal dog for a family looking for a loving, loyal companion to hang out with and go for walks. She'll stay by your side inside the house and while you're out and about. She is good about being groomed, doesn't mind it one bit. She just lays there and lets you brush out her thick husky coat, which is super soft and in excellent shape. She does like to nap on the couch but will get off when asked and head to her dog bed. She likes to go for car rides and settles in nicely for a nap once you're under way. She may sound like the perfect laid back dog and she pretty much is. Dakota is truly a lovely girl, deserving of a loving family of her own.

If you would like to add this gentle girl to your family, please complete an adoption application found on HART's website: http://www.hartanimalrelief.ca/adoptions.htm.

An adoption donation of $300 applies and a fenced yard is required.

Dakota is spayed, up to date with her vaccines and in good health. She is 4-5 years old and weighs 58 lbs. She is being fostered in the St. Catharines Ontario area.

Pet listings are updated daily, this dog is still available for adoption. HART does not ship dogs or adopt to the USA.
