Meet Diesel

Diesel kindly gave up a little blood for a DNA test and what we learned is a little surprising. His DNA analysis revealed that he is Scottish Deerhound and American Staffordshire Terrier on both sides of his lineage and a wee bit of Bull Terrier on one side. If you find the "Scottish Deerhound" hard to believe, we'll even show you the DNA report!). This young adult is a 57 pound pooch was surrendered to us in January '11 because his person had died a few months earlier. We were told by the family that he'd been recently living with his former person's brother, another dog and a two-year-old child with whom Diesel did very well. The man was working two jobs, though, and Diesel was having to be crated too much and we were asked to take him He is generally is a really happy boy at his foster home and "smiles" a lot; we'd say he has a good sense of humor but is a little "full of himself" if you know what we mean. Diesel does need to continue to learn (always with positive reinforcement) the manners he apparently hadn't been taught as a puppy. He's been learning the basics -- sit, take treats nicely, etc. -- and has been using a harness for walking since he's inclined to pull. His foster mom thinks she's come up with a good description of his ideal home/family. First Diesel didn't have the early discipline, training, etc. that he should have, so he tries to "push the envelope" and will need someone stronger-willed than he is. He LOVES to go for truck/car rides whenever the weather is safe to do so (his foster takes him crated almost everywhere she goes), so if you are a trucker, delivery person, etc., who would take him with you whenever you could, he'd be your friend for life. He'd prefer to be on your furniture and probably your lap (which, of course, we don't typically recommend) and be an only dog/animal if he had the choice (again, he like to be the household "King" so you'd need to supersede him on that). Although he's been fine with kids, we think he'd need (at the beginning) and probably always want more of your time/attention then people with children may have to give him. As do most dogs, he enjoys outdoor exercise so if you need a play-mate, walking/running partner, Diesel would be great. If you'd enjoy the challenge of working with this clever and amusing dog and are willing to give him the time, training and love he needs to blossom into the kind of companion we know he can be -- either temporarily as a foster person or if you'd like to talk about adopting Diesel -- please contact us

Adoption Process

Guardianship Application available for download at

http://tinyurl.com/MAPSFiles

The Adoption process is designed to help best place dogs with homes that are in the best interest of the dogs and their human companions. The adoption process starts with a prescreen review of an Guardian Application. Making decisions about dog placement in adoptive homes is an art not a science and there will be times when applications will be denied for various reason(s). This is left to the discretion of the MAPS after reviewing relevant information. MAPS reserves the right to make all decisions regarding placement or final disposition of any rescued dog in its care into a foster or adoptive home. There is no guarantee that any applicant(s) requesting to adopt a dog being fostered through MAPS, or posted on MAP's web site, will be granted an adoption. After a successful prescreen, including background checks, the applicant(s) are notified that they can visit the dogs and a time slot is made for the dog and applicant interaction. After the interaction we encourage several days of reflection before adopting a pet to help assure this will be a lifetime commitment of love and quality care for the dog. Next we conduct a home/neighborhood visit to the Guardian Applicant's home. If the home visit proves successful the new mom and/or dad of the dog will sign an Adoption Agreement and share a lifetime of love !
