This companion animals name is Jewels.Meet Jewels!! This girl is a super happy pup with tons of energy. She has a physical disability but she doesn't let it stop her from having fun! Jewels is a 1 year old (as of April 2011) Golden Retriever mix. She is a very special girl who requires a very special owner. Jewels was hit by a car and suffered from collapsed lungs and radial nerve damage, causing one of her front legs to loose function. She found her way to R.E.D. and we were able to get her the medical support she needed to survive. Her lungs are all healed up and her leg has improved over the past several weeks, but she remains unable to walk on it. Since she has shown improvement in the leg, we have crossed fingers (and paws) that she will continue to improve and regain some more function over the next few months. Jewels is looking for a human companion that will accept her the way she is and who will be dedicated to providing ongoing care to address her disability. Her leg should be monitored closely to ensure it does not suffer more damage, and if the leg becomes a detriment to her health or mobility it may need to be amputated in the future. The future of Jewels' leg is important to us and we will screen adopters carefully to find the best possible match for Jewels and her needs. She deserves an owner who is able and willing to give her the special care she requires.

Jewels is an amazing dog. She loves all people and is always happy and eager to please. She plays wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys meeting new friends. Despite her inability to walk on one leg, she still uses it to play and dig!! She uses the leg to hold onto bones and paw at toys, to bat at her foster mom for attention, and sometimes for balance. Jewels is still a very young dog and full of energy. Endless amounts of energy!! This girl is always on the move and ready for excitement. She will never pass up the opportunity to play, is very affectionate, and loves to snuggle. She has good house manners, and is crate trained. Jewels is spayed and up to date on vaccinations.
