Meet Tippy

This gorgeous girl was at the shelter for 4 years until she arrived in foster care in NH. She is around 6 years old, weighing 55 pounds. Tipper loves to run, play, retrieve, and fetch. She adores human attention as she wants to play tug of war and fetch.

Update from her foster dad- She is doing much
better on her leash, but has a ways to go to be calm at the door to go
out as she gets so excited to go for a walk!! Also, when she is comfortable with you, she gets a little mouthy and sort of mouths your pants as her way of saying
play with me. She is a little shy when meeting new people. At home, she
is a really good dog, no issues with leaving her loose in the house
when we go out or at night with the other 3 dogs. She loves to lay on
the couch with you and watch tv or cuddly up on the bed and loves
belly scratches. She just needs time to get to know her people. She really is a sweetie!

Update from her foster dad- "She is a pretty little dog like a mini Rotti with a tail. She is house trained and lets you know when she needs to go out. Tipper is crate trained but we let her sleep where ever she wants and have had no problems with that. We leave her in the house when we leave with 3 other dogs with no problems. She is learning to sit for treats and to be patient when a door is opened. She is getting better with food as long as you put her bowl down last. She will not bother the other dogs. Tipper has decided she likes toys and will plan nicely with the other dogs. She loves to play tug-o-war with people and with my 2 year old dog. She loves to play outside with my 2 year old Dog and can keep up with her.
She loves sunny days and watermelon!! She really is a nice dog with lots of energy but is respectful of my two older dogs and does not bother them."

In general, Tipper's ideal forever home would include an active family, tons of time to play, and love. Send all applications and inquiries to April at hssc_ahr@yahoo.com

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".
If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. **Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot.**

Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:
FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.
CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.
SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.
SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO A LOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.
HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS A LOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVALENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $350 for dogs through 6 months of age, $300 for dogs 7 months-5 years, and $275 for dogs 6 years and older; (for bonded pairs: $250.00/per dog). This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm/lyme/erlichea test, worming and for imported dogs: transport on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All imported dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to leaving Arkansas. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption. Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net/adopt and can be e-mailed to adoptions_ahr@yahoo.com
