Meet Jeanette

Update 5.7.12 Jennie has been working hard to become a social butterfly! She is visiting a local dog park with her foster dad and is enjoying playing with the other dogs, and is learning that it is ok to meet new people.
In May 2009, she was brought to the shelter with her two siblings. This beautiful girl is around 2 years old, weighing 55 pounds.

Check out her hike- http://www.fosterdogsummit.com/2012/02/hiking-with-jennie-to-faraway-mountain.html

Foster dad update- As for Jennie, I can’t tell you how SWEET a dog she is. She is lying beside me right now with her head on my lap. She readily plays with Noel outside now and plays with Noel, Tipper and us on the bed. She will also play with a tennis ball and will chase it when thrown, not so good at returning it. She is still very timid and shy and needs to retreat to her safe spot from time to time but will eventually come back. We have had zero issues with her with anything in the house or the other dogs. Even though she is timid and shy she has never shown any aggressive tendencies at all. I can take any toy away from her and can put my hand in her food bowl and there is no reaction from her. I hope someone can see her inner beauty and accept the challenge to bring it out. They will be truly rewarded! We have been.

NH foster dad update-She has become my little shadow follows me all around the house. She seems to open up more every day. It is so fun to watch her, everything is new to her and needs to be explored. She is still very timid and shy but getting better. She hasn’t figured out ice yet, tries to run but just wipes out. Noel works hard on her every day to get her to play and it seems to be working. She even tried to play with me tonight. She is death on soft dog toys but has such fun ripping them apart. Also has a thing for slippers. Other than that she is a perfect house guest. We leave her loose in the house with the rest of the dogs now for any length of time and have no issues. She loves to chew on Nylabones but has not chewed on anything else. She let me cut her nails tonight! Been working on that as at first she did not want her front paws touched. She does not know any commands but is learning down and leave it. All she needs now is an adopter to bond with… she is so ready.

NH foster dad update-Jennie is far from the cowering shivering dog I brought home last Saturday!! She has made huge strides! She now thinks house living is pretty good, wanders around the house greets you at the door. Found out that if she jumps up on the couch there is a nice warm leg to lay her head on. And has decided that a tail is good for waggling. She still has a long ways to go but she has come so far! By the way she has beautiful green eyes.

NH Foster dad update-Jeanette rides nicely in a car, and she is crate trained, sleeping thru the night in it. Last night, we left the crate open all night, and she was fine, and slept thru the night again. Also, we have left her loose in the house with the other dogs for short periods of time and she was great. This poor girl is pretty timid, and she has picked out a corner by the door as her spot and stays there. To move her around the house when we need to, we use a leash, which she seems to be comfortable with. Once yesterday, she did venture out to the room we were in on her own and found a corner to lay in. When she was on the bed she seemed to really relax and stretch out. Normally, she lays all curled up.
She appears to be house trained no accidents so far, but we have been taking her out regularly. In terms of play, she showed a little interest in a ball, but would not play yet.She is good on a leash, and loves her walks after you get her out of her corner and outside. She likes to wander around the play yard, Noel tries so hard to get her to play but nothing so far. I know she will when she is ready...
She is still getting comfortable with all the sounds and objects associated with living in a home. Have not heard her bark yet, nor have I seen any destructive behavior. I have noticed that she is slightly possessive of her food so we feed her away from the other dogs.>

She will need a very patient adopter to work with her in an effort to help her overcome her shyness. Obedience training is also recommended. Jeannette gets along well with all dogs, people, and kids as she is very submissive. She has been cat tested. Though her initial reaction was to chase the cat, she was easily corrected. The shelter director writes, " She is getting a little better as she will come play with me while we are alone, and she will heal quite nicely now. She is starting to come out when other people are at the shelter, but only if other dogs are out first. She will chase a ball, but has yet to bring it back to me. She will play with my 10 year old son now, but doesn't get to close to anyone else." Overall, her ideal forever home would include a very patient and loving family to help her come out of her shell. All known information is listed here. If it is not listed here, then we do not know if this animal is good with cats or kids.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".
If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. **Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot.**

Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $350 for dogs through 6 months of age, $300 for dogs 7 months-5 years, and $275 for dogs 6 years and older; (for bonded pairs: $250.00/per dog). This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm/lyme/erlichea test, worming and for imported dogs: transport on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All imported dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to leaving Arkansas. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption.
