Meet Bryar (LOCAL)

Hi my name is Bryar! Am I not the cutest little doxie ever?! I am a 3 year old, red, short-hair, tweenie, but a real lightweight, at appx 10 lbs.

I had a rough start in life. I was abandoned and left alone in the world to fend for myself. I was really, really hungry most of the time so now when you give me food, I sometimes eat a little fast because I am scared I won’t get to eat again. My foster mom says this ok and will get better in time. Unfortunately, not everyone I met when I was on my own was nice to me, and as a result I am a little nervous around adult men and bark at them until I get to know them. But my foster dad has been really patient with me and I have learned I can trust him, and I hardly bark at all anymore. My foster mom calls me her “Velcro Weiner” because I follow her everywhere, mostly because I am scared if I don’t keep my eye on her I might end up alone again. She tells me not to worry though, this will never happen again, and that my worries about this will pass with time. Also, when I was out on my own, I didn’t have anyone looking out for my health (health insurance is tough to come by when you are an orphan), so I got a skin infection and caught Heart Worm –oh dear! However, when the fairy godmothers at PAWS found me they fixed all of that pronto and now I am 100% healthy!

Despite my rough start my foster mom says I am an amazing little fellow and a true lovebug! I play well with my four-legged foster brothers and sister and adore my two-legged, five month old human baby sister. I go to doggy daycare every day and they report I am well socialized and love to play with all dogs big and small – I particularly love my fellow doxies. I walk well on a leash (don’t be embarrassed, I do need a little sweater because it’s cold up here in NE) and am 95% housetrained (though sometimes I might make a mistake when I get a little excited). My favorite thing to do is sit with you on the sofa and snuggle with you in bed at night.

I am looking for a home with a family that hopefully has other dogs (no cats please, as they are a huge distraction for me!) and children; one that is patient and loving and will introduce me to new things and new people slowly so I can gain confidence like at my foster home. My forever family will understand that I may still get scared sometimes when I first move in, but that won’t bother them one bit because they will know that with a little time under my belt I will be just fine. Do you have room for me at your house?

If so, contact my foster mom at paws4maharaj@aol.com for more information.

Name: Bryar

Breed: Purebred Dachshund

Sex: Male

Age: 3 years old

Medical info: neutered, up to date on shots, completed treatment for heartworm disease, feeling much better!

Hi! My name is Bryar and I am a male, three year old, red Dachshund. My brother Thorne and I were abandoned in a house in Hattiesburg, MS. We were both strong heartworm positive, covered in fleas and terribly emaciated. We are doing so wonderful now thanks to our foster mom. Thorne was adopted a little while ago, but I am still looking for my forever home. I am great with children, other dogs and all people. I am way too interested in a cat to live with one at this time.

If you have any questions or are interested in adopting, please visit our website and complete an online adoption application.

The adoption donation covers all pre-adoption vet costs (vaccinations, spaying/neutering (when age appropriate%29, heartworm testing/treatment when necessary and includes transportation up to New England ($125.00 per dog%29. Unless otherwise stated, all of our dogs are located outside of Rhode Island boarded either at one of our vet clinics or in foster care. If a dog is listed as ""local, he /she is at one of our foster homes in New England.

PAWS of New England is not shelter but a rescue and thus is not funded by any city or state organization - we rely solely on the donations of our adopters to help defray the costs associated with saving these precious lives.

We are often asked, ""Why would you charge ""so much"" for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?"" The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support all rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in (discounted%29 vet care, and many people will want to adopt it. An older one with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation%3B yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt it. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others. Most of our dogs have a sad story to tell, and some have suffered through years of neglect or abuse. We hope that you too are willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by supporting them through adoption fees. Without these funds, our rescue efforts would not be possible.

ALL KNOWN INFORMATION IS LISTED HERE. We do our best to give accurate information, but most of our dogs are rescues and do not come with a known history.
