And now a few words from me, Jackson:

Hi, I'm Jackson! I'm a beautiful, smooth coated black dog, and although that's NOT a bad thing, some feel, for whatever their reasoning is, that it means I wouldn't make a lovely and wonderful companion. Apparently I'm not the only Black Dog out there in the world that sits in rescues, shelters, on death row (in some cases), as many other wonderful and amazing black dogs do. In most cases, considered less adoptable or un-adoptable simply because of the color of their fur!? . Can you believe that!?? Sounds silly and ridiculous, doesn't it? They call it Black Dog Syndrome. Yep, they actually have a name for it too, and it DOES exist. To give you an idea of what Black Dog Syndrome is, please watch this very moving video as it best describes Black Dog Syndrome. In spite of my Black Fur, I'm a total love bug. My foster mom and dad and their friend Dee lovingly call me a 'boy of love.' lovingly named after Aunt Dee's dog, Otis P., the wonderful and amazing black dog that she adopted. I really am a 'boy of love' once I get to know you! I love going for walks and to the leash free park where we go on hikes. I really enjoy meeting and playing with new dogs at the dog park. They tell me I'm also a pretty smart little dude to boot! I know, what they call 'my basic commands' and have an extensive vocabulary. I am crate trained, which is another plus for me, although mom and dad like to spoil me by letting me sleep with them. I'm just as happy in a crate at night too, so you don't need to worry about that with me. They used to crate me in the beginning, but only as a test until I was able to prove I was good to be left outside a crate whenever they go out, so they don't do that any more. I'm a complete goof-ball, for lack of a better word. I'd really like another dog for companionship who will help me with my confidence building and will play with me!

And now a few words from my foster mom:

Jackson is both crate trained & house trained, so no work needed in those areas. Jackson will require a family that has a fully fenced yard that is secure for him.  He does have very good manners & he likes to please, so he's a quick study.  Smart boy!  Food motivated, so easily trained.  Loves to be with you.  Great on recall. He loves to play & snuggle, so I think that once he's settled in a new home he'd do just fine. He responds well with correction & re-directing of his attention.  This little guy is character plus!

Jackson is a very sweet boy who loves to play! An active to moderately active home would make this little guy happiest! He loves his walks and he loves to please his humans. Jackson has tried very hard to overcome his fear of children. However, despite encouragement to build his confidence it would be best for Jackson to live in an "adults only" home.  He would do well in a dog savvy home with at least one other companion dog of similar energy to play with. He feels more secure with other dogs around since this is all he's known. He is extremely intelligent and has been easy to train. Jackson is obedience trained and knows a thing or two, such as high five, sit, down, come, stay, wait, off, treat, walk, daddy *he really loves his foster dad*, as well as others. Although he is food motivated, he will also respond to commands because as I said, he just loves to please. Jackson is a total goofball and will make you laugh with his antics and endearing qualities!. He is quite the character once you get to know him.

Once Jackson find his forever home, the new family needs to be aware that he will need a period of adjustment, just time to get used to his new surroundings and comfortable with his family. This time would be best spent with just his new family and not many visitors so he can learn the routines and not be overhwhelmed as Jackson is sensitive and will adjust better for the long term. This time will allow Jackson to bond and trust his new family. He will be an awesome addition to a family that can love and cherish him for the sweetheart he is!
