Meet Raine

We are thrilled to announce that we have a new and improved Raine now available for adoption!! This bubbly little Bearded Collie is friendly and outgoing, playful and curious – just a delightful and scruffy little muppet. But it’s been a long uphill battle for Raine. Now 2 years old, Raine is where she needs to be and is ready to find a forever family to cherish her and call her own.  One of the litter of R pups we rescued with their mother Rose back in the summer of 2010, Raine was the most troubled of these Border Collie/Bearded Collie puppy survivors. These pups were dumped at the shelter with their severely malnourished mother. Half the size they should have been, within a week of arriving in a WBCR foster home, the pups battled life-threatening respiratory infections, then were diagnosed with Parvo. Despite round-the-clock vet care and the extraordinary efforts of their unbelievable foster parents, three of the puppies did not survive. The remaining 9 continued to battle for their lives for weeks and weeks. After three months (yes, THREE months) of severe illness in foster care, most of the R pups were finally healthy and ready for adoption! Slowly but surely, they all found their forever homes – except for Raine. Unfortunately, runt of the litter Raine continued to battle constant infections in one eye, until it was finally removed in December 2010. Then, she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia – in BOTH hips! Over the course of 2011, she underwent surgery on the first, and then the second hip. (Thank you Deb!!!) Raine has fully recuperated and is now OFFICIALLY ready for adoption! This cute mophead is feeling oh so much better, and although she has always been a sweet, social, and happy little fuzzbucket, she is finally pain-free. She’s ready to put her past behind her and find a family who wants to share a life of love and good times.  And what a character! Raine is full of love, happiness, and enthusiasm. She is very friendly with people, and is a loving and affectionate kiddo with her human friends. She’s playful, enjoys toys and playing fetch, likes going to the park as well as splashing around in the kiddy pool, and in case you didn’t notice – she’s just about the cutest pup around! She is quite a social butterfly with dogs, too, although can be a bit bossy and will sometimes get touchy with other dogs when she is all tired out and needs to be left alone. Although she is feeling better than ever before after three surgeries, Raine will still have some everlasting effects from her health battles as a puppy. Her bladder was affected by her terrible hips, and although this is much improved since her hip surgeries, Raine still needs to go out to relieve herself more frequently than your average dog. Her intestinal tract was surely damaged as well, and Raine must be kept on a strict and consistent diet, as any new food upsets her system terribly! So, despite being remarkably better, perhaps she should be considered a “special needs” pup. Of course – SHE doesn’t think so! Raine has a heart as big as they come and she will go and go and go. She is able to happily play and romp around like any pup, just can’t go for super long outdoor adventures, marathon fetching sessions, or be considered as having dog sport potential. She will need adopters who can keep an eye on her activity level and not let her overdo it!  Raine is also a bright little lassie and already is familiar with a lot of the basics. She’s housetrained, cratetrained, and travels well. She is an attentive student and would love adopters who wanted to continue teaching her all kinds of new things!  Raine’s determination and optimistic attitude should be a lesson to us all. Despite a painful and compromised youth, Raine greets every adventure with puppyish excitement and her joy for life is contagious. If you are looking for a special little girl who, although she might need a little extra help, is sure to bring years of smiles to your life – Raine could be the one for you!

Raine is living in a loving home near Jackson, WY.
