March 31/11   Hi Everyone, Stevie here again!  Guess what, I had my eye surgery on Tuesday and we are all really hoping that I'll be able to see at least a little!  I have to try really hard to train that eye to send messages to my brain to see so I’m going to practice every day.

I  AM SO LUCKY in that I have some special admirers ( BFF'S! ) who wanted to help me see.  They donated some money to help me get  to see the specialist and then to have the surgery.   I am ever so greatful to them.  My foster mom asked me to ask if anyone can help a bit more since the surgery was a few hundred dollars more than we expected so we’re still just a bit short.  Wow, I still can't believe how  they cared enough to help little old me - a throw-away puppy!!

My foster mum was more worried than I was when I went for my surgery.  I don't even think about it much except this stupid big plastic cone on my head. I know it’s so I won't injure that eye but boy I don't like it at all and have to have it for 2 weeks.  My foster mom won't let me play cause she's worried about my eye.  I guess she's right but I sure love to play with all the furries here.

For the next 2 weeks I need to take some eye medicine before bed. I'm very good and love my cozy bed so I have that to look forward to after the medicine.  I’m working really hard on my housetraining so hopefully I can sleep on the big bed with my foster mom all cozied up with all the rest of the dogs.

'night now....

Your friend Stevie..xoxo

PS  Please remember if you have any questions my foster mom's email address is at the bottom here. We’d love to hear from you.

I promise to be the very best boy ever if you will help me and find me my own loving home.  If you have a furrie playmate that could act as my ‘guide dog’ that would be even better!
MARCH 19, 2011    Hi everyone!  Stevie here!!  I wanted to tell you about my big appointment with the nice, kind eye specialist!   He said my left eye is simply a globe with no working parts  but my right eye is now clear of all granuloma ( from a past ulcer) thank goodness.   This is because my foster mom was good about putting in my antibiotic ointment every few hours.   The doctor also said that I will need to have the upper and lower Entropians fixed as soon as possible.   If an eye is not used within the first 6 months the neurons which should form a chain to send the messages to the brain might not form.  If that happens to me I will never be able to see.  YIKES!!
I am going to ask everyone to please help me. If everyone could send even a couple of dollars I could save it all up and hopefully get enough so I can have the surgery needed to have sight.  It will cost several hundreds of dollars and I know that is a lot of money. I have only a few weeks of a chance before my sight could be gone for good.  I know people are really stretched but I would give all kinds of puppy kisses if you would help me.  I could probably even talk my foster mum into sending you my picture if you could find a way to help me and let her know.

Oh.I also have to tell you I am really loving being outside now and LOOOOOVE to run with the other dogs now that cold white stuff is gone.  I am starting to understand this house training thing too but if caught short, mum said it’s OK if I go on the pee pads.  I learn really fast she says and I turn inside out when she tells me what a really good boy I am.  I put my ears back and wiggle to bits with my front feet  waving in the air!  She tells me how really cute I am and I like that.

Thanks for reading about me.   I hope you can help me.

Love Stevie wagggy woof !

Update Feb 17/11....Hi all..Stevie here !!   I am so ready for a new home where I get more attention..and have someone to play with ! I'm a very busy boy and love all the dogs here...mum says we are going to start going out doors cause it's a bit warmer....I was too small and thin to be out much when it was so cold..... Won't you please think about adopting me..?? I am just like any other puppy and do very well navagating around the house....I love to explore !!   I'm still keeping my little  paws crossed that 'maybe' I will have some vison ...but if not that's OK cause I don't really know what it means to see , anyways !!!   UPDATE..Jan 25/11...Just wanted everyone to know that Stevie has been to see the eye specialist...and  good news...there is hope for his Right eye !!   The eye looks normal although small and he is hoping that in time it will become somewhat functional...and hopefully the Entropian will right itself. We have to return in 2 months to see if there is any improvement.  Meantime he needs an inexpensive ( over the counter )  lubrication ointment in  that R eye several times a day to prevent  irritation to the cornea.--so fingers crossed for this little guy !  His L eye is not developed at all. Stevie is a very busy happy little guy with no other health issues that we know of..he loves to tease the other dogs and barks at them if they run and won't play with him and his sharp teeth !! He knows his name and loves to explore.

A few words from the FOSTER MUM:

This little boy Stevie is doing well considering his difficult start in life..with being picked on by his litter mates for being the smallest and BLIND!  He really is a confident boy who loves to run around the kitchen and bother the other dogs...wanting to play but not knowing how. He is learning that mouthing is not acceptable and learns really  quickly !!  He likes to keep clean so that's a great start. He's so adorable and vulnerable..that you can't help but love this baby....he has such a good life ahead....considering that he would have been 'disposed of ' by the puppy miller... had rescue not stepped up to foster and save him.

More about little Stevie as he grows and learns.
****We would like to take Stevie to the Veterinary Ophthalmologist.to see if there is anything that can be done to help him see.....but will need to raise the money for this consultation..( I believe it's at least $150. for the initial consultation ) ..If you would like to help and perhaps be part of helping Stevie's eyes....Please contact  the foster home with any questions  obkennels@rogers.com .  Thanks for caring about a special little rescue baby!**** Janet

It takes a special kind of home to raise a puppy. While puppies are cute and playful bundles of joy, they do not come without work! They have frequent accidents and need someone who is home with them for the most part of the day to give them potty breaks until their housetraining is well underway. The first few months are crucial for their training, development and socialization. Puppies and young children, while they sound like a natural combination, too often do not go hand-in-hand. Puppies jump, chew, and do a lot of playful mouthing with those very sharp puppy teeth! Young children by nature are bouncy and energetic and can easily injure and/or frighten a young puppy. Small breed puppies in particular are very delicate and need to be handled with care. If you think you have the time, patience and guidance to give to a young puppy then we look forward to receiving your application! Please ensure that you submit a fully completed application. Often we receive several applications for the same dog and if you leave out important details then you may be inadvertently eliminating yourself from consideration. Please visit the FAQ section on our website for more details. Thank you so much for considering a rescued dog.
