Meet Rosie

Lovable Rosie The Bassett Hound

Rosie is a 3 year old female Bassett Hound. She was found as a stray and a kind family took her in. The family had Rosie spayed and vaccinated. Due to health issues within the family that rescued her, they could no longer care for her and contacted CCHS to find her a forever home. Thankfully they did as this sweet Rosie was in horrible condition when handed over to the CCHS foster. She was FULL of hookworms, HW+ and skin and bones.

After several months of care and with her hookworms treated Rosie still had health problems so when every test under the sun and countless bloodwork options showed nothing unusal, the last resort for poor Rosie was exploratory surgery. Dr Singh at Parker Animal and Bird Clinic went in for surgery expecting to have to take biopsies from numerous sites to send off for testing. Much to everyone's shock when he opened her up... he found hard plastic material in her stomach! This blockage was thin enough that it didn't show up on x-rays and sleek enough that the barium passed right over it. It was all safely removed and Rosie showed her appreciation by gobbling up her next meal and wagging her tail it delight. It was evident that she was feeling much better and was now on the road to recovery!  Rosie completed her Heartworm treatment, is on Heartworm preventative and at her ideal weight of 41 lbs. looks and feels absolutely wonderful.

Rosie is wonderfully affectionate and loyal.  Since she is exuberant in her demonstrations of affection she will do best in a home with older children or adults only.  She shares her foster home with 3 small dogs and 3 cats who she adores.  Living with another small or medium size dog would be okay with her as long as the other dog has an easy going personality and will let Rosie be the dominate dog.  Rosie seems to represent the typical Basset energy; short play sessions and leisurely walks suit her just fine.  Please, no morning jogs or agility trial training for her.  Rosie's favorite activity is lying on her comfy pad next to her foster mom while she works on the computer or watches TV.  Now that she is well, Rosie is completely housetrained and will let you know when she needs to go potty.  She no longer needs to be crated at night but her foster mom still crates Rosie when she needs to be away from home during the day.  To keep Rosie's digestive system in tip top shape from its earlier trauma, Rosie will need to be fed a food that contains no corn based products, no sugary treats and a regular feeding schedule.  Rosie is currently eating a reasonably priced grain free food available at Costco.
