Meet Sasha

**MORE PICS BELOW**Sasha was dropped off at an Arkansas shelter on11/5/10. Beautiful Sasha is 4 years old, weighing 45 pounds.

Foster Mom update as of October 2011- Sasha is currently in foster care and although she is the 55th foster dog that has passed through this foster home on her way to a permanent home, her foster mom says she is probably the easiest foster she has ever had. She is approximately five years old and when she went to the vet for a social visit, she very nicely climbed on the scale and sat to be weighed and she is a very nice 45 pounds. Sasha is fully housetrained and likes a crate or better yet the bottom of the linen closet (lots of blankets). Her favorite type of toys are fluffy and squeaky and when you come in the house, she loves to run to the door to greet you with one in her mouth. She makes a great watchdog as long as you don’t use her to protect your home. She will bark at anyone coming to the door but her biggest problem is if someone comes in, she runs and hides until you tell her to come out...so a very sweet watchdog!!! She has done much better on a leash and loves to go for very long walks but is just as happy with a short walk or to run around the yard long enough to do her business and then go back in the house to cuddle. Tall men make her a little nervous but once she meets them on her level, she loves them. Since she likes people that are at her level, she loves kids. She currently lives with two resident dogs and she gets along great with them. She knows sit, easy, and stay. She also likes to have her belly rubbed and her butt scratched. Her favorite pastime is going for rides in the car. When she goes outside, the first thing she usually does is run to the car and sit very nicely next to it....just in case you want to take her somewhere. Her foster mom really loves her but would love to see her be happy in a forever home.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".
If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. **Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot.**

Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:
FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.
CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.
SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.
SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO A LOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.
HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS A LOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVALENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $350 for dogs through 6 months of age, $300 for dogs 7 months-5 years, and $275 for dogs 6 years and older; (for bonded pairs: $250.00/per dog). This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm/lyme/erlichea test, worming and for imported dogs: transport on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All imported dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to leaving Arkansas. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption. Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net/adopt and can be e-mailed to adoptions_ahr@yahoo.com
