Meet Rufus - Urgent!
UPDATE: Rufus has gone to a very special cat rescue in Pennsylvania specializing in kitties with FIV!
Rufus is a special guy, indeed....he is only about 1 1/2 years old, but it has obviously been a hard life. In the short time he has been at the shelter, he has slowly learned to trust people and appreciate a soft voice and gentle hand.
We have just learned that Rufus has FIV.
No one wants to see Rufus put down. But to go to a home, it needs to be one with no other cats. Cats with FIV (similar to AIDS) can live a normal life span.
FIV is usually spread through bites. The virus does not live off the cats for very long - a few hours at most and is rarely spread through feed and water dishes. But to keep other cats safe, it is recommended that FIV cats be only cats and fed high protein diets. This virus is not communicable to dogs or humans.
Please - if you or anyone you know would be willing to take this special needs cat, the shelter will waive the adoption fee and give Rufus to the person willing to give him a home even if only temporarily. Please contact the shelter if interested at 989-835-1877.
