Meet Franz

Franz needs a foster home -- can you help? Please see below for more information!

Can you believe that no one has come to claim this classically handsome GSD boy? Franz was picked up as a stray, but is neutered and was wearing an electric-fence shock collar, so he must have belonged to SOMEONE. But there he sat in his far-too-small cage at the shelter, waiting for someone to take him home ... and no one ever did :-(

The vetsestimated that he's about 4-5 years old, so he's well past that "crazy-puppy" stage and ready to be someone beloved companion! His shelter friends reported that he does very well with kids and other dogs, but no cats -- too tempting to use them as chew toys!

The volunteer who took him out for walks weighs just 105 lbs., and he walked politely beside her with no pulling or jumping. He also seems to know some basic obedience commands, she said.

Franz recently traveled north to join the Almost Home family, and we thought he'd found a forever home ... but the resident dog wasn't too fond of Franz, so he's once again looking for a place to hang his leash. Franz may be available on a "foster-to-adopt" basis, so if he sounds like the perfect guy for you, please stop by an upcoming Meet & Greet or e-mail us for more information! (Breed experience and local adoptions preferred -- Philadelphia and tri-state area only.)

PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events: You can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster. (Note: Please e-mail us to request an adoption application.) To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. For Meet & Greet times and locations, visit our website, where you also will find information on our adoption process and fees.

FOSTER FAMILIES ARE LIFESAVERS!! Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives -- that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Come to a Meet & Greet and find out if fostering is for you -- there's no reward quite like the feeling that you've saved a life ... or two!
