Long haired Doxie Mix, Dashiel, is a darling little boy. He is 4-5 years old, happy, sweet, and playful. He likes his personal space, like many of us humans, but loves attention and does well socially with the animals he is familiar with. He is a joy to be around at our monthly adoption events. In fact, he looks forward to them! 

According to his fabulous foster folks: "Dash was sensitive during his first two weeks, sometimes he would growl if irritated (usually if I roll him on the ground like a sushi roll or touch his tail). Now, he lets me do anything to him and still won't bite or bark. Occasionally when he tries to nib me while we are playing, I just raise my voice and he'll immediately stop and roll over like he knew he did something wrong. I would suggest anyone who wants to adopt him take it slow (things like no sudden movements in front of his face and play nice when grabbing his favorite toy)...

I would suggest anyone who wants to adopt him take it slow (things like no sudden movements in front of his face and play nice when grabbing his favorite toy) for a week or two to let him establish a comfort zone. Once he feels comfortable, you can pretty much take residence in his prime personal space (I can even stick a finger in his mouth to make him let go of his favorite toy)."

He walks well on leash, but we did notice he snaps EVERYTIME he sees a skateboard or bicycle (just barks and growls nonstop regardless of what we do). Dash has been doing really well with our visitors as well, but we noticed that there's a chance he’ll snap on the visitor if someone rubs him excessively around the neck area. Also we found it much easier if we take him out to meet our visitors rather than having the visitors walk through our door with Dash inside. We took him to meet the family and our family dog (7 yr old German Shepherd mix). Dash immediately loved our family, but started barking and growling as soon as he saw our family dog. However, as soon as we put both of them on their own leashes and went for a walk, they become friends and were best buddies for the rest of the night.

Dash is a bit unpredictable, has snapped several times when startled or petted by a stranger while being held. Dash can only be placed in a home with experienced dog savvy guardians, and should not be placed in a home with children. We are sure that Dashiel will find a forever home that suits his unique personality. 

Dashiel attends our Sunday adoption events along with most of our other available dogs at the Healthy Spot pet supply store, 1110 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90401. We are there from 11 am until 3 pm every other Sunday.

If you are unable to attend  our bi-monthly adoption events, we are able to show dogs/cats by private appointment when an application is submitted that seems to be a  particularly good match for one of our rescues!
