Meet Stanton-RIP

Unfortunately, all of Stanton's health problems (please read below) caught up to him. He started to have more bad days then good, and his quality of life was suffering. So we made the very tough (but, ultimately, humane) decision to end his pain. RIP, Stanton. We love you.

Stanton is an eight to ten (our best guesstimate!) year old black persian. This poor boy was left behind when his previous owners moved. He was almost at death's door when he came into rescue. He was basically a skeleton - no fat, no muscle mass. We quickly realized that Stanton was also blind! After he started to put on weight (he's gained almost two pounds in these pictures, over the weight he was when he got here, believe it or not!!), Stanton started having breathing difficulties and we noticed that his heart seemed to be beating rapidly. A visit to the vet and a quick EKG, we were given the diagnosis of cardiomyopathy. Poor Stanton was given a life expectancy of 12 months, max. Which is heartbreaking because this boy suffered horribly due to the stupidity of people and, in spite of being so badly neglected, he is so loving and sweet.

We are not looking to find an adoptive home for Stanton (unless someone that has previous experience with this condition is interested in giving him a forever home for the rest of his likely short life), but we are looking for SPONSORS for this boy. Stanton will need at least monthly vet visits, further testing as needed, and will be on medication for the rest of his life. Sponsors are needed to help with these expenses.

UPDATE 9/21/10: Stanton had to go back to vet this morning. He has adema - fluid accumulation under his skin. They put him on Lasix to help with the fluid retention. Fingers crossed!!

UPDATE 10/30/10: The Lasix has worked wonderfully! No more fluid accummulation. Stantion is putting on weight and eating VERY well! And, as you can see from the two new pictures (the first two - the last pic is the "before" picture), Stanton's fur is growing in excellently!

Sorry, we do not ship our cats or provide any transportation. All potential adopters should reside in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, or Louisiana. We will not adopt outside of these states.

Who We Are: We are a not-for-profit organization who is committed to helping Persians, Himalayans, exotic shorthairs, and ragdolls. All of our expenses are funded by personal and private donations. All of our cats are kept in foster homes - please note, we do not have a shelter facility, so appointments must be made prior to visiting foster homes. All of our cats are spayed/neutered, FIV/FELV tested, wormed, de-fleaed, and vaccinated prior to adoption.

Adoption Process: We require all potential adopters to fill out an adoption application prior to setting up an appointment to visit with the cat(s). We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. If you email us, we will provide you with an application by email.

Adoption Fees: Our adoption donation for persian, himalayan, ragdoll and Maine Coon breeds are as follows: adult cat is $150, a kitten is $175 to $275 - depending on age, gender, and breed of kitten. Other breeds may have differing adoption donation amounts, depending on the rarity of the breed (for example exotic shorthair adults are $200, rex breeds are $250 and up). Declawed cats add $25 to adoption donation. We occasionally have reduced fees - these will be noted on the individual cat's listing. If someone adopts more then one cat from us, we will reduce the subsequent adoption fee(s) by $25 to $50 (depending on age of cats/kittens adopted). WE ONLY ACCEPT ADOPTION DONATIONS MADE WITH CASH - WE DO NOT ACCEPT CHECKS! DONATIONS (NOT ASSOCIATED WITH AN ADOPTION) AND DEPOSITS CAN BE MADE BY DEBIT/CREDIT CARD THROUGH PAYPAL. The adoption fees help defray SOME of the costs associated with rescuing/fostering these kitties. Except for the persian, himalayan, and exotic shorthair cats listed on this site, South Texas Persian Rescue cannot guarantee the parentage or breed of cats on this site (unless otherwise noted that the cat is "purebreed"). Please note: if someone places a deposit on a cat/kitten to "hold" them until they are ready to go home, and the person changes their mind, the deposit is non-refundable - it is only refundable if the cat/kitten become unadoptable for some reason.

Donations are always welcome!
