Meet Xavier

Meet Xavier! He is a 4-year-old Chihuahua. He weighs about 10 pounds and that means he'll make the perfect little companion!

Xavier has been in the care of the ARP since the end of August. He and his pregnant housemate (Mulan) were taken to the pound when his previous owner went into the military. He is currently living in a foster home and they have only great things to say about him. He lives with 5 other small dogs and a 30# pit bull puppy- he does well with all of them! The other dogs all loved him immediately (look at photo #3!). He rides well in the car and walks well on a leash. He is crate trained and housebroken. Xavier can be a little bashful around new people but once he's comfortable, he loves to snuggle up in a chair or in bed with his people. He loves attention and loves to give kisses.

****His adoption fee is $195****

The Animal Rescue Project is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues—and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed.

All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws.

Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $25 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization.

All Animal Rescue Project pets also receive a Home Again microchip prior to adoption and one month of free medical insurance. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
