Pit Bull Terrier Mix: An adopted dog in Northville, MI

Arrival story: Bella was found as a stray roaming an empty lot looking for food--and apparently love! She was very underweight and had obviously recently had puppies. The man who found Bella took her home but couldnt keep her, so he looked for a rescue to help. Theres no telling how long Bella had spent on the streets, but we suspect she may have been someones pet at one time, and either abandoned or escaped. Despite her difficult life, Bella proved to be a dog out for your heart and immediately took to living life as a beloved pet.

Approximate age / weight: 2 - 3 years / 43 lbs.

Shes happiest and grins ears to ear when getting a scratch under the chin and a good girl! for a job well done.

Now that shes found the affection shes been looking for, Bella is learning how to deal with it. Shes being crate trained because she hates to be left alone and is still adjusting to life in a home. Bella stays off furniture and is housebroken--she's even learning to go potty in a designated spot in the yard. Shes been working hard at learning obedience and is still a bit stubborn since shes never had to follow a command. But after only a week of training, she quickly learned and continues to get better with sit, sit-stay, wait, heel and down. Shes learning to walk nicely on a loose lead, sit and wait for her food (and everything else!), and general doggy manners. Shes a medium-energy dog and would benefit greatly from daily walks and structured interaction. Bella mostly ignores the other dogs and cats in the house--under supervision, she's hanging out more with her terrier foster siblings and will even give them kisses from time to time.

Forever home: You won't find a more loyal companion than Bella--so she needs the same commitment in return! Bellas ideal forever home would be an experienced, responsible bully breed owner with strong dog leadership skills - true lover of Pits who can provide her with the balance she needs in life. Bella will need continued training to adjust to her new life, and her foster momma--a professional trainer--will show her forever home just how to work with her. She would love for someone to be home most of the day, but would do okay at home for short periods (up to 5 hours) if she has a lot of interaction and walks. Although a fenced yard is a plus, it is not necessary as Bella should still be supervised outdoors.

Waggin' Tails Adoption Information: Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue has a standard adoption fee of $175 for adult dogs. Different adoption fees apply for older dogs, small breeds and puppies - $100 for senior dogs (9 years +), $275 for small breed dogs and $200 for puppies plus a $50 deposit which is returned upon proof of spay/neuter at six months of age.
Our adoption process includes an application, vet reference checks, and a home visit.

Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).
