Dachshund Mix: An adopted dog in Northville, MI

Arrival story: Handsome and Bonnie, another one of our available dogs, were surrendered to Waggin' Tails by a good-hearted lady who lives in a rural area where animals are often dumped on her property. She has taken these animals in, but over time accumulated more animals than is allowed by local ordinances, so she was forced to remove many dogs. Fortunately, her pleas for help fell on the right ears, and some rescues, including Waggin Tails, came to her aid.

Approximate age / weight: Approximately 6 years old and 11 lbs.

Personality: He really should be called 'Mr. Personality - what a charmer! Handsome is a Blue Dachshund, and this variety is prone to skin issues. Personality: He really should be called 'Mr. Personality - what a charmer! Handsome is a Blue Dachshund, and this variety is prone to skin issues. Handsome has some hair loss on his back, forehead and ears, but he isn't any less "handsome" because of it! Handsome's thyroid test showed he is on the lowest end of normal, so he's on thyroid pills to help his skin and promote hair growth. He is otherwise healthy, well adjusted and incredibly affectionate. Handsome is a very smart boy who wags his tail and responds when he hears his name, knows some basic commands and is such a sweetheart, he'll steal your heart!

Handsome is good with dogs who respect his small size and his space, and he is good with cats and kids.

Forever home: Handsome will do well in many situations, as long as he can own someone's lap! His new mom/dad would have to be committed to Handsome whether his coat grows back or not. If it doesn't grow back, he will need to wear tee shirts and sweaters according to the weather, so as not to burn or get cold. Handsome's foster mom says he's a little angel about putting on his t-shirts and taking his pills -- he's such a good boy!

Handsome's adoption fee is $275.

Waggin' Tails Adoption Information: Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue has a standard adoption fee of $175 for adult dogs. Different adoption fees apply for older dogs, small breeds and puppies - $100 for senior dogs (9 years +), $275 for small breed dogs and $200 for puppies plus a $50 deposit which is returned upon proof of spay/neuter at six months of age.
Our adoption process includes an application, vet reference checks, and a home visit.

We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).
