She was rescued with Tank and Trix. All of these cats are being fostered by one of MM&M's foster moms. They all live together in peace and harmony. And they are all lovely, lovely cats. Lucille is a polydactyl cat. Sometimes these cats are known as Hemmingways. A polydactyl cat is a cat with a congenital physical anomaly, with more than usual number of toes on one or more of its paws as a result of a cat body type genetic mutation. In animals including humans, polydactyly (or polydactylism, also known as hyperdactyly) is the anatomical abnormality of having more than the usual number of digits on the hands or feet. Normal cats have five toes on each front paw and four toes on each hind paw. Polydactyl cats may have as many as seven digits on front and/or hind paws, and various combinations of anywhere from four to seven are common, although each of the front and rear paws are typically the same. Polydactyly is most commonly found on the front paws only, with polydactyly of all four paws being less common. It is rare for a cat to have polydactyl hind paws only. People LOVE polydactyls! It is so funny as we have never met a polydactyl cat that was not uber-friendly. Lucille is no different. She is simply adorable and her foster mom is totally smitten. She is polite with other cats and seems non-plussed by her foster mom's 85 pound dog. She would be a lovely addition to any lucky family. We think Lucille is about 7 or 8 years old. She has gorgeous orange fur. She was a bit of a mess when she was pulled out of the South LA shelter. But her foster mom is working on getting her cleaned up...the poor little dear was terribly matted. Her claws were so long that they were started to curl under in her paws (which is very painful). So our vets cleaned her up and got her on the road to good health. Lucille is such a love bug. She loves to meow and have conversations with you. She truly simply wants to be your adoring best friend.
