Meet Juliet

11/2/10 UPDATE: JULIET HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

Date of birth: 6/07

9/16/10: Though you wouldn't know it by her smiling face and happy demeanor, Juliet and her friend, Romeo, suffered a horrible ordeal together. They were abandoned in a house after their owners moved away and they weren't discovered until a month later. When KCK Animal Control* and our shelter director were alerted to the situation, they found the starving dogs barely able to stand, but their tails wagging. The doors and windows of the house were scratched where the dogs had tried to escape. They'd gone through all the trash looking for food, and the toilet water was gone. Urine and feces were everywhere. The last photo on this page is of Juliet on the day they were taken from the house.

Romeo & Juliet were taken to animal control and then transferred to our shelter. After a few months of care they are very healthy now and ready for their new home(s).

Juliet is a Gordon Setter/Spaniel mix and she's about 3 years old. She's playful and happy and very friendly. Romeo is a one year old Shepherd/Pit Bull mix. He's very affectionate and friendly and pretty mellow. They both get along with other dogs. We've taken them to our satellite adoption events and they love meeting new people. Visit Romeo's Petfinder page for more photos.

We've recently moved Romeo into a foster home because we were having trouble keeping weight on him in our shelter. He's doing really well in his foster home and gets along with the other dogs. Juliet is still at our shelter and doing fine.

Romeo & Juliet can be adopted together or separately. We'd initially hoped to place them together but since Romeo needed foster care and we had to separate them we're now open to finding them separate homes. Most important is that they each find a forever home where they'll be loved and well cared for!

Romeo & Juliet have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms. Juliet weighs about 40 lbs. Romeo weighs about 45 lbs.

If you'd like meet Romeo, please send in an application and contact us so that we can make arrangements for you to meet up with him at our shelter or through his foster home.

*Ray of Hope is a partnership between the Humane Society of Greater KC and the Kansas City Kansas Animal Control that has had amazing results: We've reduced KCK Animal Control's euthanasia from 70% in 2007 to under 3% in 2009. We utilize a network of rescue groups, other no kill shelters and adoption events. Our clinic provides the spay/neutering and other veterinary care. We need help to cover the costs associated with this life-saving program. If you can help us by donating to Ray of Hope, or by volunteering, please visit our web site at hsgkc.org.

MORE ON ADOPTING OUR DOGS...
