Meet Mr. Goodbar

COURTESY LISTING:

[NOTE: Sorry about the photos but this is the best we can do till Mr. Goodbar mends. But we trust the vet who says this is a purebred Burmese.]

According to the people who rescued Mr. Goodbar:

During April, a beautiful chocolate brown cat showed up in our garage, along with the other feral kitties in the neighborhood...it was dinnertime. He ate along with the others, made himself comfortable on an old chair, then went on his merry way. A couple of days later he showed up, but this time his beautiful fur was matted and bloody, he was limping, obviously had been in a fight. Because there were females in heat, and he was an unneutered male, it seemed probable he had fought with another male cat.

He seemed exhausted, lay down on top of an old sleeping bag, and slept. I noticed that he had infection in his front shoulder and leg because the area was oozing and bloody. He appeared to have 2 or 3 abcessed areas. He let me hand feed him, and touch the injury, so I loaded him into a carrier and took him to our vet. Fortunately, the vet was able to clean the abcesses, and suture the torn areas around his shoulder, leg, neck and ears. He was also neutered. Unfortunately, he tested positive for FIV, as a carrier only, not AIDS.

He stayed at the hospital for 3 days, after which I brought him home and set him up to recover in our main bathroom. He has been with us almost a month, finished his antibiotics, pain meds and had his stitches removed. All he really needs now is a home with someone who will love and treat him well. The vet identified him as a purebred Burmese, who either got outside accidentally or was abandoned due to foreclosure. His behavior is not that of a feral cat, just easily frightened and very cautious.

I named him Mr Goodbar because it seemed more original than Hershey and much more dignified. Please let me know if you know of someone who can help. He is getting depressed and "cabin fever" from being contained in the bathroom, so I would like to get him to a foster or adoptive home as soon as possible. You can contact me or my husband, Steve, at 510-245-7929 (home) or 510-701-3584 (cell). Thank you.
