11/2011 Its me Naos foster mom......I wanted to take some time to tell you how GREAT Nao is. Nao continues to amaze me everyday. Nao is a beautiful senior who just wants to be with you, she stays by your side all the time. Even in the morning after going out she will wait for me to sit down with my coffee and than she runs in to get her breakfast (she knows that I sit for a bit with that coffee). Nao also does great in her crate. As I work full time Nao is in her crate for 9 hrs a day, never has she had an accident. Nao also does not bark!!! Nao does make noises but they are very soft and rarely heard by others. We all have thought that Nao is deaf....I think that she is hard of hearing but she can hear you. I have worked with her using hand signals and she does well with following them. Nao & I take walks daily around the block thru the woods and back home. It is about 1/2 mile this is a perfect length for a walk for Nao, who likes to break into a run now that it is cooler out!!! Nao is gentle with my 2 boys who are 7 & 5. Nao is great with other dogs too. I can continue to tell you how wonderful she is and how she is ready for her own home and not to let her age deter you!! BUT it is YOU who has to choose to fill out the adoption application and than take the chance on meeting her. When you do she will steal you heart and you wont want to leave her behind. Go ahead I dare you!!!
10/2011 Hey~ Its just me, Nao!!! I have been thinking that I am REALLY ready for my own home!! I have been here at my foster families home for a few months and as much as I love them I would rather have my own family!!! I want to remind you that even though I am old I still have a LOT of life to live and love to give!!! I still have a happy wiggle to give you every morning and a sweet sloppy kiss to share with you when you get home at night. If you want we can go for walks around the neighborhood. I still can catch a ball and run around the yard with you!!! I like living with kids and even other dogs. All the other stuff that you have read about me is still true!! No changes in any of my other behaviors or habits. My health is picture perfect!!! What more can I say....... So have your people call my people and we will talk!!! calling my people means fill out the application! Love. Nao
9/2011 Nao has been living with myself and the family for 2 months now and I can not believe how spunky and spirited this gal is. She still loves to go for walks and enjoys romping in the backyard with the other dogs that live here. N'ao still has the boxer humor and has kidney-beaned herself into our hearts. She is crate trained and house trained, if gone for long periods she can wait to go out but I recommend keeping her crated for those days. She eats 2 full meals with my 3 dogs all in a row and never ever any signs of aggression. Nao is deaf but she is learning some signs. Nao also DOES NOT BARK!!! Thats a plus in our house with 3 howlers!!! She does not come up on the furniture unless invited and she loves to snuggle with you when she is invited to be a couch potato. Nao is fantastic with my 2 boys who are 5 & 7. She is looking for a home that will offer her lots of love and affection!!! Nao is a older dog but her heart is still as young as a puppies!! Take the chance to be the person Nao deserves because she will give it back to you ten fold!!!
8/2011 Well Hello!!! It's been awhile and I thought I should check in with yall!!! I have moved into a new foster home and I am enjoying the new place!!! The home has 2 big people that I love, 2 little people that they call boys who love me & I love them!!! AND 3 other dogs live here too and its AWESOME!!! I get along with all of them. Since Ive been at this new house I have enjoyed taking 2 leisurely strolls around the block. It is great to get out and move!! I also like to nap in a sunny spot, preferably on a couch!! But if you dont want me on the furniture, thats OK too. I spend some time in a crate when the people are not home, it's not that I need to it's just to make sure everyone is safe when no one is around. I dont have accidents so I think that I may get to be free of the crate pretty soon. I like to nibble on some kibble twice a day !! So let's talk about my fur coat- coloring, I used to be a beautiful brindle, now I am a spectacular silver. I know that an older dog is intimidating. I promise you that you will get the best from me everyday and you will fall deeply madly in love with me so much that you wont even care about my age. I will fall so deeply in love with you that I wont care that you ever had second thoughts about me.
Give me a call!! I will talk to you soon.
Sweet Kisses.
Nao
2/2011 Nao is a sweet, friendly, ole girl. She is an older, special needs boxer, but loves lots of attention, spending all of her time close at my side, and gets puppyish and excitable when she goes for walks and goes on new adventures. We go on easy hikes in the Pisgah National Forrest and also along the streets of Brevard, NC. She looks forward to the attention of the people we meet and sniffing the other dogs. I take her nearly everywhere with me. I am a veterinary technician so I have the benefit of being able to take her to work with me. She also goes with me to visit friends and family, trips to Lowes and the nursery. When at home she likes to be near me at all times, or at least wants to know where I am. When I get up to go from room to room, she is close behind me, making sure that I dont grab my car keys without taking her.
She gets along well with my cat, and visiting dogs. I have had several family members visit since Nao came to stay with me, they bring their dogs. We have had no issues. I had an Irish Setter when she first came to the house. He has since passed on, a victim of lymphoma. But they got to be close friends. My cat, Gwendolyn, doesnt give Nao much notice, and doesnt feel the need to get out of the way when Nao is wandering through the house. Nao shows all due reverence to Gwendolyn. Nao does get overwhelmed by puppies and overly rambunctious dogs, but she just tries to avoid them. She definitely prefers the company of people over dogs.
She finished up her treatment for Heartworms in Dec 2010, and got through the treatment with almost no problems. One of the first things folks notice about Nao is that she is small for a Boxer, and that she is quite skinny. Now that she is finished with her treatment, we hope that she will start to gain weight. She is currently about 40 lbs. She eats well and gets several treats throughout the day. She gets a Purina Pro Plan Senior mixed with Purina VPD JM; I am also mixing in a little puppy food to encourage weight gain.
As an older Boxer, she does have several special needs. She is nearly deaf, and has some difficulty seeing clearly. She also has some significant arthritis in her hind quarters and takes glucosamine/chondroitin/Omega 3&6 supplements regularly and gets regular light exercise. She is also developing a little old age incontinence. She needs to be able to go outside every 4 hours or so; I also have to limit her availability to water in the evening so she can get through the night. A regular, strict schedule is a must so that she does not have an accident.
Nao would be a good fit for an older family or single senior; someone who could spend most of their time with her. Since she only needs light regular exercise, she would be a great fit for someone who likes to take walks and spend time close to home. She does well with children, but can be overwhelmed by a lot of exuberant activity. She would fit in nicely with other pets; cats and dogs. She is very happy here, but would love to find a loving forever home.

Nao loves to be with her person ALL the
time. She wants to go with you where ever you go. She rides in the car
great. I take her to work with me, and she goes almost everywhere; friends,
to town, Lowes, the nursery. I do have to keep her on a pretty regular
potty schedule. She doesn't really tell me when she needs to go out, but if
I can take her out every 5-6 hours, we don't have accidents. She gets quite
fixated on my feet. Wants to rub and lick them, and be rubbed by them. She
also will gather socks and shoes and roll in them. She is a pretty
low-energy girl. She has her brief moments of activity, but then settles
down to nap. She wants to be in your presence at all times and will follow
you around the house, just to keep you near. I have not yet heard her bark,
although she does whine, softly on occasion. This is quite unusual for a
deaf dog, but I am definitely not complaining. She is all boxer, and is
quite the clown. She loves to be the center of attention, and will place
herself in the middle of things to get the attention she deserves. She is
such a love.
We are finally going through her heartworm treatment. She got her first
injection Nov 24. She was pretty sore the first day or so, but recovered
pretty quickly. She gets her next round on Dec 21/22. She is sporting a
bald patch on her back, which we get lots of questions about. It’s not hard keeping
her quiet since she normally sleeps more than the cat. She got a clean bill of
health prior to her first treatment, the vet mentioned that she could stand to
gain a little weight. I explained that I am already feeding her enough food
for a dog 20# bigger, and she still doesn't gain weight. I’m hoping that once
the HW’s are treated she will put on some weight. There is no indication from her labs
or x-rays that there is another reason for her petite stature. The mass on
her left flank, that I was told was a Lipoma, turned out to be an abscess. It
ruptured last week after being there for several months. Thank goodness we
had already gone through 2 weeks of antibiotics in preparation for her
heartworm treatment. We cleaned it up and it seems to be healing well now.
If Nao sounds like you’re kind of lady fill out one of our adoption applications. You won’t regret it.
11/2010 Hi everyone, it’s me Nao. I started my heartworm treatment. It was pretty rough the first day or so but I’m feeling better now. I have good medications to help with the pain and inflammation. Since I sleep a lot, I didn’t have to go on that strict crate rest that a lot of doggies do. I’m very thankful for that. My foster mom says she hopes I can put on some weight now because I’m still a tiny girl at 41 lbs.
Boy has there been a lot going on here. There has been a lot of work being done to the house. Thankfully the noise and stuff doesn’t bother me. I’ve also been getting to go to work with my foster mom recently. I really love doing that because I get all kinds of attention. We also had lots of human and doggie visitors here for this holiday called Thanksgiving. I was such a good girl with all the guests, human and doggie. I really like this Thanksgiving holiday. Want to know why? Cause I got lots of yummy treats. Well I better go, it’s time for my nap. Till next time… Nao.
10/2010 Fun loving ol’ girl. Loves attention and full-body rubs. Enjoys short, leisurely walks, and romps in the yard. Never met another dog or person she doesn’t like. But she does get overwhelmed by younger, overly energetic pups. Once she got acquainted with my cat, they ignore each other mutually. Have yet to find an actual toy that attracts her attention. We have been taking advantage of the beautiful fall weather, and taking walks in Pisgah National Forrest. Try to keep the trails easy and fairly flat. She loves the exercise and the socialization. On these cooler days she is really finding her inner puppy and romping and chasing in the yard. Makes me wish I had a fence so she didn’t have to be on a leash. She has such fun, her facial expressions are hilarious. Now every time we go outside she immediately heads toward the car hoping we are going for a ride into the park. She also loves to go with me to the dump; the attendant there always has cookies for her.

I have had Nao with me for almost 3 weeks now. She is settling in so well. We are getting a regular schedule for walks and feeding. The first couple of days we had a couple of accidents while I was figuring out her needs. She has also finally won over my her fur brother, he was a little jealous and possessive of his toys for the first week. But now they take turns rubbing on each other, and eating out of each others' bowls and swapping Kongs. Nao is starting to win over my cat, too. The cat still only tolerates her presence, but now allows her to get close and sniff. Pretty soon the cat will be head butting and rubbing on her too.
She has such a sweet face and temperament. She has a foot fetish, and loves to play with your feet and rub herself all over them. And the look of ecstasy on her face when she is doing that is so entertaining. She is really getting settled, and I get to see more and more of her real personality everyday. She is such a sweet girl. She is really easy to walk on leash. I keep her in a harness and leash most of the time so I can get her attention and keep her out of trouble. She sleeps a lot, but when she is awake she loves to play with your feet, chew on her Kong, or go out and romp in the grass. With her being hard of hearing I can't allow her outside without being on a leash, and she wants to play chase with her fur brother in the yard. I am thinking about hooking up a way to connect their harness's so they can romp together in the yard with supervision

This sweet girl wandered up a stranger’s driveway in Concord, NC in May and they were kind enough to clean her up and give her a place to stay until she could get to a BRBR foster home. Who knows what was in her past, but Nao has certainly not let it affect her fabulous, sweet and loving personality.
Nao only weighs about 46 pounds (a “pocket boxer” is what I call little ones like her). She is somewhere around 8-9 years old. Nao is heartworm positive and does have some trouble getting around smoothly. She can get a little limpy and stiff. She can’t get up or down from chairs, beds or the car on her own. Nao likes to keep close to the ground where she feels the most sure-footed and safe. Having a soft bed on the floor with lots blankets would be great for her. Nao loves to dig at them and make a comfy and soft place to lay down for nap. Even though she may have a bit of arthritis, it doesn’t seem to stop her. She loves to play, likes toys, and I think she would love another fur brother or sister to play with seeing as ours isn’t always receptive. Nao does not seem to have any issues with other dogs (not sure about cats, haven’t tested her yet).
Nao doesn’t hear well if at all. I am unsure if she has been deaf her whole life or with time she became almost deaf. Even with her being unable to hear Nao gets along just fine. When I come home in the afternoon she may not greet me right at the door if she is sleeping, she just doesn’t hear us when we come in. If she is sleeping she just stays snoozing until I come up and pet her or she feels the vibrations of the floor from the action in the house. When she realizes we are there she always greets us with tons of wiggles like a typical boxer, and she is always excited to see us. She is a bit of a “Velcro dog”, she wants to be where you are and she loves attention. She will look up at you with those big eyes and it you can’t help but smile. She is very sweet and loving.
Nao is a curious pooch and loves to sniff everything, so we try to keep our special things out of her reach. She can’t help herself; her new world has so much more to offer. She is inquisitive and needs some toys of her own, we have a few things for her to chew on and she seems to like them.
Nao is house trained. She has had no accidents in the house and has been at home for an extended period of time. She knows she gets a treat when she comes in from doing her business. She does need some work on not begging for table food, but again who knows how she got her meals when she was out on her own. I think with a little extra work that will not be much of an issue at all. She doesn’t seem to know the command “sit”, or at least she won’t when we try to get her to…this could also be because she can’t hear or it isn’t comfortable for her to sit with her stiff joints. She is on occasion a little skittish around doors, so we go slowly with the in and outs. She is good on her leash and when she goes for short walks she does pretty well.
Nao is loving, friendly and super sweet. She is looking for a home to share the rest or her days in and with people who will love her for who she is. She has a wonderful personality and we think she would be a great addition to a home that wants a low key companion. She needs a little extra TLC and patience but she is easy going and should have no issues fitting in at someone’s home. I think another dog would be great for her, she loves company. If you like seniors I think Nao is your girl…she will steal your heart along with a few boxer kisses.
