Nana Update: I admit to being pretty befuddled as to why Nana is still here. She is one of my favorites on the farm, a sweet and gentle girl who simply wants a nice bed by her humans chair. Nana is deifintely a dog that prefers humans to dogs, though once she accustomed to new dogs, she is fine with them, and has been known to play with young dogs. Due to a severe attack before coming here, she is understandably afraid, but gets over her fear quickly with friendly dogs (especially males). Nana is excellent with children of all ages and would make an excellent family dog. She would love a fenced yard and a nice walk each day, and is pretty low maintenance. Nana is not a dog to take to dog parks, and while she would be fine at obedience, she really doesn't have sports potential. ************************************** Nana Update: Nan has been here now for several months and has come a long way in her becoming a 'real' dog. Her leash walking has improved tremendously, as has her attitude with other dogs. She now attends Yappy Hour, although will gather balls and guard them, so is NOT a candidate for a dog park dog.
Nana is sweet and affectionate, has reasonable recall and is generally a nice girl to have around. Her future human is a lucky person. ****************************************** Nana is known as Nana because I simply cannot get the picture of Nana from Peter Pan out of my head when I am handling her.
Nan is a big girl (she has lost about 10lbs since her arrival here at the farm) and tends to throw her weight around when she feels she is not getting her own way. That is mostly with dogs, but occasionally, she will pull hard enough on the leash that you wonder if there is a bigger dog there than what you see!! For that reason, we walk Nan on an EZ-Walk harness, which of course, solves the problem. She is learning to walk more nicely on a leash without it, but Rome wasn't built in a day! (18 June, leash walking is improving, is much better when she is tired out!)
I would guess that Nan was not kept with other dogs in her previous home. While she is good with other dogs, she can be somewhat rough, indicating that she has never learned the niceties of dog-dog play. She LOVES to play with other dogs, and will initiate play, she just is very physical and can come off as rough to the uninitiated.
I know I seem to be painting a not so great picture about Nana, however, the upside is that she is so sweet, very submissive, and adores her people. She loves children, strangers, the more the merrier.
Nana will do best in a home with a fenced yard, humans who love big dogs, and who can remain in charge. Due to her size, and the fact that she does not seem to realise that she is so big, she would do better in a home without babies or toddlers.
Nana is crate trained, travels reasonably in the car, and appears to be housebroken. Nana is not 'dog-park' dog, but will make the right family an awesome companion.
Please read our procedures prior to making inquiry regarding this dog.
Please go to our main website at www.mabcr.org for more information regarding the adoption of this or any dog from our rescue.
Please note that while this dog is currently available, any dog on our site may have an adoption pending and may not be available to you at this time. The same dog may later become available if the adoption falls through.
Our website www.mabcr.org will give you details on our adoption procedures as well as an application for adoption. An application must be submitted prior to 'matching' an adopter with a dog as all dogs do not fit into all homes. We pride ourselves in our adoption process, we take the time to get to know our adopters so that we can place a dog with them that they can enjoy for years to come.
Please understand that we will not discuss dogs with individual adopters until after the application process is completed.
Our rescue does not have a public facility, therefore there are no visiting hours. Appointments to visit with the available dogs are made after the application process has been completed by our staff.
To assist any dog within the MABCR organization, please consider making a donation to the general fund or to the medical fund. All dogs coming into our rescue are fully vetted (s/n and innoculations) prior to adoption.
Rescuing animals is quite expensive. If you are unable to adopt, but would like to help this, or any other animal in our system, please consider a sponsorship donation.
For information on our sponsorship program, please contact Sarah at SLR@mabcr.org.
