“GLAMOUR” HAS KNOWN HARDSHIP!
Article: by: Judith-Anne Kolu (UCHS Volunteer)

I am called “Glamour” but “Hardship” would be more suited to me
as my life has been anything but glamorous. I’m a 1½ year old female German
Shepherd dog, I am told I am thin at only 58 lbs, but that I have a very pretty
face.
I am listed under the “stray” category, but the Shelter traced my previous
owners who did not want me, I know I had at least one more home. I am very intelligent
but no-one has bothered to give me any structure, any lessons on how to behave
so I have developed how my nature takes me and am in need of “structure” to make
me feel safe and loved.
I am housebroken, and would prefer an adult only family or one with older kids
who would want to help train me. I am known for my bounciness and high energy,
have my basic commands, am crate trained, and progressing with leash work. Most
of all I hanker for people, I love them, want to be near them and have them
stroke and play with me.
I used to while away the time by chasing anything that came near me so I am told
I cannot go to a family with cats or small dogs, I get carried away and might
harm them.. I, like most GSD’s. also have a strong herding instinct and must not
be on a farm or close to farm animals. Even a squeaky toy can get me so excited
it accelerates my prey drive so “calm” is an important skill to learn. I
definitely prefer dogs my own size for companionship and play. I need a “job”
lots of stimulation for my active mind!
Families with GSD experience will know all about our positives and negatives so
if you want a very lively, intelligent girl and can give me a structured home
environment with plenty of exercise to wear my body out and keep my mind keen
and active here I am!
I know I am not supposed to jump up when you come to see me, but I am so
ecstatic to have company and attention focused on me, so please forgive lack of
manners, which I hope with the guidance of my new family will soon be overcome.
If you have had German Shepherds and are used to our positive/negative traits
the transition will be even easier, but anyone willing to love me and not give
up on me will be most welcome.
