Border Collie Mix: An adopted dog in Chestertown, MD

Tam was one of the seven border collies MABCR received from a Tennessee puppy mill bust last fall, and is very shy and timid.

The good news is, she shows no aggression, when afraid, she simply freezes and waits for you to love on her. Each time we push Tam to endure something scary -- like strangers or new locations, she comes out a little more brave the next day, this tells us that with time she can live a normal life, although she will never be an agility or flyball dog -- that is likely a "bridge too far" for her.

She will allow her people to sit next to her on the sofa and pet her, and will even come up on the sofa next to a complete stranger for petting, but will rarely let her most trusted humans approach her when she is outside (off leash). She does not, however, like to be left outside alone and will follow us in or come when we call her.

Tam crates quickly and quietly, plays alone with toys and loves to wrestle with other dogs.

Tam is ready to move to her forever home, with adopters who will push her enough to continue her progress. Tam will do best in a calm, quiet, confident home with humans who can appreciate Tam for who she is, and help her become a wonderful companion dog. Tam needs a home with other dogs, as she draws her confidence from them. She is very good with cats and small children, and is just waiting for a forever home who will understand her.

An application must be submitted prior to 'matching' an adopter with a dog as all dogs do not fit into all homes. We pride ourselves in our adoption process, we take the time to get to know our adopters so that we can place a dog with them that they can enjoy for years to come.

Please understand that we will not discuss dogs with individual adopters until after the application process is completed.

Our rescue does not have a public facility, therefore there are no visiting hours. Appointments to visit with the available dogs are made after the application process has been completed by our staff.
