Meet Trooper-4/11/10

TROOPER is a beautiful little blue Pit Bull with an ugly past. Just two months ago, he faced horrible abuse at the hands of a human. He was cruelly and deliberately set on fire after being doused with rubbing alcohol. The pain the little guy must have endured is unthinkable. His burns covered a good part of his torso, neck and belly. One ear was practically burned off and the other permanently disfigured. His eyes were affected and it was unclear if he would have any sight.

Thankfully for TROOPER, he had heroes on the way. Investigators, tipped off to the abuse by the children who witnessed it, responded and removed the suffering puppy from the home. The human accused of these unspeakable acts was arrested and charged with cruelty (he remains in jail today awaiting trial). TROOPER was given medical care. He found a safe foster home with a veterinary nurse who gave him love and helped him through the healing process. And heal he has!!

Today, the most amazing thing about TROOPER is that of all his scars, none seem to be emotional. This incredibly resilient little dog is as happy as a dog could be. Despite all he has been through, he loves everyone, thinks strangers are just friends he hasn't met, and expects everyone to want to talk to him. He loves toys and loves to play. He has learned to "sit" and "lay down" - and he likes to snuggle.

TROOPER's injuries have healed amazingly well, too. Thankfully, he did not lose his vision and aside from the physical scars on his body and ears, he should not have any other lasting problems. He has only one thing on his mind now - and that is finding his fur-ever home. Like many 6 month old adolescents, TROOPER has a mind of his own and while incredibly sweet, will certainly test your patience from time to time. He needs a home who will show him all the love, kindness and support he missed out on earlier while they raise him to be a well-mannered family member and canine citizen.
