My Story: Hi! My name is Sylvia, and I am indeed a very special kitty. I came to the Shelter when I had been found as a stray. I showed up at the home of one of the Shelter's volunteers. She was really surprised when I started having kittens! I had a big family of 11 kittens. I stayed with a foster family while I raised my kittens, and they've all been adopted into new homes now. I was a really scared girl at first, but my foster family taught me that it was OK to trust people and I've now become one of the nicest kitties around!
Part of the normal routine for all kitties that come to the Shelter is to be blood-tested and then vaccinated, wormed, microchipped and spayed/neutered. When I had my bloodtest, the results weren't quite what I was hoping for. I tested postive for FeLV, or Feline Leukemia. I'm not showing any signs of the disease and appear to be perfectly healthy. I guess that many Shelters will euthanize kitties with this disease. But everybody here says that I'm such a nice girl, they just can't let that happen. They've told me that there just has to be the special family I need out there somewhere.
I'm a 2 1/2 year old spayed female gray Tabby with a beautiful soft and fluffy striped coat. I'm also polydactyl, which means that I have extra toes on each of my feet. It makes me even more special! I'm just the sweetest girl. All I want in the world is to be petted and loved. I especially love it when you rub my head right between me ears. I will need to have a home where I am the only cat, as FeLV can spread to other cats and I don't want to make anybody else sick. I will also need to absolutely be an inside cat. Again, I don't want any other cats to catch this. People cannot catch the disease. I've been told that many cats can live long, healthy lives even with FeLV, and I'm hoping that I can too. There's lots of information about this disease out on the web. If you'd like to read more, you can go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FeLV or http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures/felv.html.
If you think you are the extra-special home that I need, please think about adopting me. I promise to be a good girl and share all of the love in my heart with you. You can apply to adopt me right here by clicking on the link below. I hope you'll come to the Shelter to meet me and hopefully take me to my new home!
