------------------Adoption Pending-----------------UPDATE - Rusty has just started a new training class. He's going to be working his way towards earning his Canine Good Citizen Certification with a hope that he may be able to earn a Therapy Dog title as well. Because of this Rusty will not be available till he completes trainining in about 3 months, the soonest will be end of July. Please continue to check back and if you believe Rusty is your perfect companion and are interested in continuing his training we would still love to receive an application! This big guy is Rusty. Rusty is a big, sweet overgrown baby. Rusty is a mature dog, about 5 years of age most likely. He's not had the easiest life so far and has been bounced around way too much for any dog. He also spent a long time in the shelter before we got him.
Rusty is a big boy, but don't let his size or his poor little cropped ears fool you. Rusty is one of the sweetest, most gentle and easy going dogs we've had in our program. Rusty is a volunteer favorite, everyone that meets him falls completely in love.
Rusty is an uber mellow, well behaved boy. For anyone looking for a companion they can snuggle up with and spend lazy days lounging around the house or laying in the sun Rusty would be your perfect companion. He loves his easy walks and loves to sniff and explore, but he's mostly a big couch potato that occasionally gets little silly spurts of energy that are pretty comical.
Rusty is just a loving goofball that just desperately wants to be really loved by someone. How he made it to be at least 5 without knowing what it means to be a part of a family we just can't understand. He's way too sweet a dog to be homeless and missing out on all the great things we want for him.
Rusty is friendly and well behaved around all other dogs, he's good on leash with just a little correction if we wants to go and check something out. He will be happiest in a home with an older, equally mellow, non dominant female or as an only dog. He does like to play some, but also likes to just have a gentle, tolerant companion dog to be with.
Rusty has lived with children as young as 2 before winding up in the shelter and has been around different age children since and is gentle and easy with them all. He will be a fantastic family dog and would love to have kids around to give him lots of atttention.
Don't miss out on this big lover. He's been waiting far too long for someone to love him back!
Message from Rusty's foster family:
"Thanks so much for the opportunity to help Rusty, he is a dream dog!
You are absolutely right, he is so easy going, quiet, great temperament, etc. By the way, he is potty trained, he has not had one accident in the house since he got in, he does let you know when he needs to go outside by going to the door. He was not very excited about getting in the shower, but once he got in he was so mellow, I cannot tell you how much mud came out of him, but now his coat feels so much better and he is not itching anymore. He was wiped out after the shower and slept all night after that. He is very good at night, we didnt crate him at all and he was fine, no accidents, no destruction, just curious about all the smells in the house. He cuddled up to Nathan and slept right next to him all night. He follows me around the house and just wants to investigate, a little while ago he had his entire head in the dryer just checking it out while I was switching laundry. Like I said, he is such a good dog. He is learning how to sit pretty for treats and is eating really well. He has no food aggression whatsoever, I can move his bowl while he is eating without any reaction, same thing with toys, we played a bit with a toy and he had no problem giving it up. He takes treats very gently. You are so right, he is such a couch potato, he loves coming to bed with us and Xena and just cuddle, he loves been spooned but he has no concept of how big he is so he has sat down on Xena a couple of times. Xena is so good though, she just looks at me for help, pretty funny to see.
When he gets excited he likes to kiss your hands but sometimes he gets carried away and gets mouthy, but as soon as you say no, be gentle, he stops nibbling on you and continues the kisses. He is pretty good on the leash and walking, he is very curious so he pulls when he wants to go and smell something but he can easily be stirred back to be focus on the walk." | |
