Meet Nugget

Update 06-24-2010—Nugget is happily settled into his new foster home where he is enjoying playing with his new foster sister, Zoey. While he’s here, he will become socialized with as many children as possible. He’s a great little guy. He has so many good qualities, most important, he’s completely housetrained, shows no food aggression and listens to his foster mom whenever she is talking to him. We think Nugget will eventually be just fine in a house with children and when he’s ready to go, we’ll let you know. Please keep him in mind and if you want to meet him, let us know!
Nugget is a smaller-sized dog, about 40 lbs, short and furry! We believe he is a Corgi mix, maybe mixed with Chow. Some say Nugget looks more like a chicken tender than a chicken nugget, because his body is short and long. Nugget has the most gorgeous brown eyes and crinkles his little forehead up like he is in deep thought. He absolutely loves his toys and his bones. Nuggie gets along with most other dogs and with cats. He rides great in the car and is getting better at walking on a leash. Nugget can entertain himself with toys, or enjoys playing tug-o-war and fetch. He also enjoys a good belly rub. We are guessing Nuggie is about 1-2 years old, based on the condition of his teeth and his puppy-like playfulness. He was found as a stray in the Scottdale area a couple months ago. He has been at AFW for a long time, mostly because he is not very fond of children. He can be a little rough when he plays sometimes and reacts negatively to small boys, mostly. He will bark and growl at them, as if he was possibly teased or abused by children in the past. We have no way of knowing where he came from, or how he was raised. We can only guess that he wasn't brought up in the most dog-friendly environment. Nugget is at his best with one or two people and an occasional romp with another dog. He would be best in a home where he could get adequate exercise for his breed. The Corgi is a herding/working breed. Obedience training is a must. You can see the creative intelligence in Nuggets face, and without adequate exercise and discipline, he will try to rule the roost. If you are a single or no-child household and are looking for a great little companion that will ride great in the car and will be constant entertainment to you, then please come meet Nugget and consider making him part of your family. Nugget is completely 100% housetrained!! All adoption fees include spay/neuter and up-to-date vaccinations.
