Chestnut German Shepherd Dog & Alaskan Malamute Mix Anchorage, AK

Chestnut was rescued along with six others from Homer back in October of 2009. She was extremely shy and would hide in one of the doghouses, but she has come out of her shell and is like a puppy all over again. She loves to play outside and will frolic with people and other dogs that she knows. She wags her tail and will give you lots of kisses when she greets you. She walks well on a leash. She is still cautious around new people but will be a great addition to a loving home who will continue to work with her. We are happy to announce that Chestnut completed her first obedience training with Alaska Dog Sports. She went with one of our shelter employees who worked diligently with her to ensure her success.  Chestnut just keeps on amazing us.

Alaska S.P.C.A. dogs are spayed/ neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and come with a 1-year municipal license.

We implement a 24-hour waiting period and a 10-day trial adoption, and provide a lifelong commitment to our animals.

The Alaska S.P.C.A. encourages obedience classes for all shelter-dog adoptions.

The adoption fee for dogs - $150 - covers all the costs involved in caring for the animals we house, which include: feeding, exams, vaccinations, medications, licensing, spaying or neutering, processing, and regular shelter maintenance.
