| Heidi has found her forever home with Spencer Weeks-Jamieson of Raleigh. |
~DOB: March 2009
AGE RANGE: Heidi is still a puppy. She still needs strong pack leadership and direction. Your availability for daily reinforcement is critical. Could be inappropriate for small children because of Heidi's size and energy level.
WEIGHT: 50lbs.
HEALTH STATUS: Heidi is UTD on her vaccinations -- including rabies -- and is on monthly heartworm prevention.
STERILIZED: Spayed
MICROCHIPPED: Yes
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Heidi's energy level is medium to high. She'll need a good amount of daily exercise -- at least an hour. Having another dog in the home could help.
SOCIABILITY WITH DOGS: Heidi is doing great playing inside with our dogs. She knows she is not the alpha and rolls over for them.
SOCIABILITY WITH CATS: There are no cats in Heidi's current foster home, so we don't know how she is with kitties.
AROUND CHILDREN: Heidi is fine around children. However, because of her strength, she could turn around and knock a small child down unintentionally. We'd recommend she live with small children only if they are dog-experienced.
HOUSEBROKEN: Yes.
CRATETRAINED: Yes.
LEASH MANNERS: Heidi walks calmly when we use a pinch collar on walks.
IN THE CAR: Rides fine in the car. Always safest to confine in a crate, if possible.
GENERAL PERSONALITY: Playful, energetic, friendly.
STATUS: Applications closed
COMMENTS FROM FOSTER HOME: Heidi is a beautifully marked red/brown brindle-coated girl. We've introduced her to lots of new things: indoor living, young children, other dogs. Wherever she lived prior to her rescue, it was likely outdoors with little interaction or socialization. Heidi is very sweet and friendly. She enjoys playing with the other dog in her foster home. She's also full of energy, so will need a good amount of daily exercise in addition to regular potty breaks.
Heidi has learned to "sit" and automatically does so when you start making her dinner. We have been building pack leadership with her and working towards her not being allowed to do anything without permission -- like waiting until we say "OK" before she moves to eat her dinner. She is very bright and very trainable!!
We've also taken Heidi to a local doggie daycare a few times and she has enjoyed the socialization and playtime with the other dogs there. We believe Heidi has great potential and will make someone a wonderful canine companion and new family member.
HISTORY: Heidi was found in Wake County at an abandoned gas station that had an active teller machine -- so we know lots of people had seen her. Various people had been leaving food for her, as she would not leave the location. She was very skittish when we went down to see about rescuing her and after 30 minutes she came to us and allowed us to take her home. We have fostered dogs for and adopted dogs from BFPA in the past and asked if they would help us find Heidi her forever home. .
