Meet Toto

Approximate age / weight: Approximately 9 years old and 32 lbs.
Good With Kids: Toto would do best in a quiet home with either no children or with older children
Good With Other Dogs: Toto gets along with most dogs her size or larger, as long as they introduce themselves nicely. She will occasionally dislike a particular dog for no reason apparent to humans.
Good With Cats: Toto is good with cats that are good with dogs. She previously lived with a dog-savvy cat and was fine with him, and has been fine meeting new dog-savvy cats, but she will chase a cat that seems to be afraid of her and runs away.
Housetrained:Yes
Crate Trained: Yes
Walks Nicely On A Leash:Yes, usually, but will sometimes pull toward something interesting, or away from something scary.
Knows Basic Commands: Yes
Energy Level (Couch Potato, Moderate or High): moderate
Special Needs: Toto is allergic to common household mites. She will always need a little extra TLC (compared to most dogs) to stay comfortable, but nothing overly time-consuming or strenuous. (More details below.) Toto does not have food allergies, and can eat any good-quality commercial dog food.

Arrival story: Sweet Toto was adopted by a very loving woman a few years ago; however, Toto's mom became ill and is heartbroken because she is now unable to care for her. We promised that we will find Toto another loving family.

Personality: Toto is a loving and affectionate girl with an adventurous spirit. She can be wary of strangers, but once she gets to know you, she enjoys cuddling next to you while you read or watch t.v. Her favorite thing in the world is spending time with her people! But Toto's not ready for retirement yet, and she's no couch potato! She also loves long walks and riding in the car. She'd love to be your walking buddy and your traveling companion. She's great in the car and she's always up for a new adventure - going new places, seeing new things. Want to travel the country in a Winnebago? She's your girl!

Toto is completely housetrained and is good in her crate, although she does not need to be crated, as she's very good when home alone. But when her people return, she can barely contain her joy - wagging her whole body and spinning in circles to welcome you home! She's is very smart and knows her basic commands. Toto is quiet in the house, but loves to announce her presence when she goes out into the yard. She'll sometimes trash-talk dogs on the street while riding in the car, too, but most of the time she's just sniffing and watching the scenery go by.

Extra care: The mites Toto is allergic to are so common that avoidance isn't possible, so she is undergoing "desensitization" immunotherapy treatment, but this will take time to be completely effective. Once the immunotherapy is fully effective, she will still need shots for the rest of her life. These can be given at home by the owner, or at a vet's office, if preferred. She also needs to be bathed more frequently than most dogs. She does best if she wears shirts to keep airborne allergens away from her skin, and has her paws wiped off when she comes in from outside. Although she is naturally long-haired, she also needs to have her coat shaved short every six weeks or so, as longer hair traps allergens next to her skin.

Forever home: Toto can become a little uncertain when there's a lot of activity and noise, so she would do best in a quieter home. While she gets along with most dogs her size or larger, and enjoys playing with other dogs, she would probably enjoy being an only dog, too - the better to soak up all the lovin'! She previously lived with a cat and was fine with him.

Pre-Adoption Application: To be considered for a dog, it is best to submit a pre-adoption application. The Pre-Adoption Application can be downloaded from our website - http://www.waggintailsdogrescue.org/adoptionprocess.html. Just complete the application and email it back to wtdr2008@yahoo.com
Waggin' Tails Adoption Information: Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue has a standard adoption fee of $225 for adult dogs. Different adoption fees apply for older dogs, small breeds and puppies - $125 for senior dogs (9 years +), $275 for small breed dogs and $250 for puppies plus a $50 deposit which is returned upon proof of spay/neuter at six months of age. Our adoption process includes an application, vet reference checks, and a home visit.
We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar for the latest information. Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).
Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only.
Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog!
