Thunder is a four year old full bred German Shepherd that has great energy and potential. He originally came into our program as a rescue from a local shelter and has spent time in a foster home. He has a lot of youthful energy and excitement in him and yet can also be content to lounge around a house most of the day.

Thunder is a quick learner and we have continued his training since he has come into our program. He is house broken, crate trained, knows basic commands (sit, wait and come) and walks well on a leash. He will bond quickly to a new owner and become very affectionate. Thunder has shown that he can be good around most other female dogs, but he does display dominance around male dogs, so Thunder is not a candidate for someone looking to...

He also will gladly chase cats. He spends time around older children, but because of his size and strong bonding capability, he will do best in a household with older children. He plays well with toys and is not possessive of them.

Thunder would make a great addition to a home that does not have other pets and in a home with an adopter that has previous large breed dog experience. He is a wonderful dog that needs a strong and wonderful family.

• GSGSR does not adopt outside the immediate New Jersey area. We may consider adoption locations bordering New Jersey and parts of Staten Island.
  
• We DO NOT do long distance adoptions because we do home visits prior to the dog going to its new home.
  
• The age requirement for adoption is 25 to 70 years old.
  
• We require all adopters attend professional training with their adopted dog.
  
• We are an all volunteer organization and every effort is made to proceed as efficiently as possible with an application. As with all rescues, we do require veterinary references if you have a pet, personal reference, a phone interview and home visit. This process has been created to insure that we match each applicant with the best possible dog.
