American Shorthair/Domestic Short Hair-Black And White Mix: An adopted cat in Portland, OR

When I was rescued by a good Samaritan with my littermates I was just a kitten. We went into a foster home to give us a chance to get to know people and make sure we were healthy. Then we moved to the 'Big House'. Wow! this was kind of scary and fun at the same time! Lots of others to play with, yet there were adult cats who didn't put up with youngsters antics.

I stayed close to my brother, Cricket, in this place. It was comforting to be with my brother. Yeah, it was him and me against the world. My sister got adopted quickly because she's what's called a Siamese. I guess Cricket and me are your garden variety black and white cats. I guess I'm lucky because I have some white in my fur, sort of like a Holstein cow, only much more handsome of course!

The seasons have come and gone and now we're in the same season as when we arrived. I was hoping to get a home like my sister. I got a sample of one when we were in a foster home and it was grand! I used to be very outgoing but lately it doesn't seem important to greet anyone anymore. I used to groom and cuddle with Cricket and the other cats but I don't find joy in that anymore. I keep thinking about what it was like to have a home for those few weeks last year and wish more than anything I would have that again. I hear there are more cats than homes. I wouldn't take up a lot of room and you would get my love and devotion (yes, cats can be devoted). My catnip is packed and I'm ready to go home with you when ever you are.

Some of the other cats have blogs so that people get to know them better. Since Cricket and I have been at the shelter our whole lives, we thought we'd try blogging too. We've got to try anything we can to get a home. So, here we go! I'll blog for Cricket and me.

CRICKET'S AND MONTY'S BLOG:

• 6/19/10 -- Let's start off with a tour of the room where Cricket and I live. Cricket spent most of the afternoon sleeping, but I was soaking up all the attention that I could. Later, I got some cuddling from a volunteer. Then, a nice couple stopped by to visit me. That would be very exciting if they took me home. I know they liked May too. She's a pretty girl with big yellow eyes. That's all for our first blog entry!
• 6/26 -- Here it is the WWF wrestling championship! And the winner is: [watch the video to find out]. Thought you'd like to see that we do more than sleep all the time. There's still a lot of kitten left in us.
  Both Cricket and I have both been featured on the OregonLive Pet of the Day blog. Here is my story and here is Cricket's.
• 7/4 -- It was a quiet weekend because the shelter was closed on Saturday and Sunday. Maybe now that it's summer, people will have some time off work and school and might stop by the shelter to visit us. We have to keep our hopes up that someone is on their way to adopt us soon.
• 7/12 -- Two of May's kittens will be going home this week. I wonder if they realize how lucky they are not to grow up in a shelter. Cricket and I are still playful and fun, just like kittens. Won't someone please give us a chance?
• 7/18 -- Daisy, Lucy, and Joy all found homes this week! There's even an application for Kami. If she goes home, that would mean only three of us have been here over a year: Mitzi, Cricket, and me. Why don't you stop by and visit us. You could change our lives.
• 7/23 -- They are worried about us because we're getting so depressed and wonder if we could find homes quicker if they split us up. Cricket and I don't want to be separated! How would you feel if someone told you that you would never see your best friend again. There must be someone who can adopt us together. Please. We're really good cats and we promise we won't be any trouble.
• 7/31 -- Kami went home last week! We're really happy for her, plus it's one less black and white cat I have to compete with. Now Mitzi is the greeter cat and she is loving it! No one knew what a social butterfly she was. She likes Amy, her senior roommate, and gets along with everyone.

• 8/4 -- A nice couple sent in an application to adopt Cricket and me together! We haven't met them yet, but they're as anxious to meet us as we are to meet them. They're coming to visit on Saturday. I hope we make a good impression. Wish us luck!
• 8/9 -- The couple stopped by on Saturday to visit us, just like they said they would! They petted us and got to know us better. We found out today that they really want to adopt Cricket and me!! We would be able to live together forever. The adoption coordinator is processing our application today and, if all goes well, we could be going home soon! We are so lucky to have found someone who wants us. We have waited such a long time and sometimes gave up hope that there was a family for us. But there is! Somebody wants us! In just a few days we could start a normal life with a mom and dad that love us.
• Well, this is goodbye! We're going home tomorrow. It will be a little scary after living our entire lives in a shelter but I know our new parents will be understanding. We can't even imagine what it will be like.
