Marley is a young quarterhorse cross who was seized in a neglect case by the Danville Virginia Humane Society. We drove to Danville on July 12, 2009 to get Marley. Marley spent the fall of 2009 and early 2010 in a foster home where he gained weight, was vaccinated, dewormed and gelded, learned to trust humans and learned to stand to be brushed, have his feet trimmed, etc. He has now become quite a social little horse and is in a foster home with three other horses, where we are letting him relax and play until he is old enough to start under saddle.

Update! We are very excited that James Cooler of Cooler Horsemanship has volunteered to work with Marley. There is a video of Marley on the Cooler Horsemanship site so that everyone can watch clips from that first session.

Update! Marley has become quite a lovebug! He now follows his foster mom around the field and asks to be petted. He stands nicely (even off halter) to be groomed and has learned to love the feel of a curry comb and shedding blade, even on his belly. He is also up for a full-fledged "bear hug" around his neck and isn't the least bit shy anymore. What a great little horse!

Marley has now been ponied in a training demo, learned to walk over a tarp, learned to let us spray him with a bottle of fly spray, and walked in the Summerfield Parade (with braids and flowers in his mane!).

4/7/2011 Update! Marley is in college! He is spending the month of April with the Salem College Equestrian Team and will be started under saddle. Updates to come as he gets an education!

5/22/2011 update! - Marley was in his first horse show today at Hidden K Stables in Pfafftown and he was a superstarl! He walked, trotted, cantered, weaved through poles and around barrels and even jumped a crossrail. He was ridden by a college student in some classes and by a ten year old girl and some classes. He even won a blue ribbon for the "egg and spoon" class. What a great pony! We will continue his training under saddle and will begin to trail ride him as well. W are SO proud of him!

Marley's adoption fee is $1500.
