Hello, welcome to Animal Aid. My name is Kami. Thats what I say when people walk through the door. Im the official greeter so Ill be the first kitty youll see. Im a good greeter because Im outgoing and I like people. Look, I even help around the office. Here I am waiting for a fax. Is that an application to adopt me? No, not yet. I like my job, but its only temporary until I can find a job as a house cat. Thats my real career choice.
If I were applying for a job as your house cat, I would tell you that I could handle an active household, and Im intelligent and very curious. My weakness? Well, theres only one. I dont really like other cats. I can tolerate them if I have to, but Id prefer to be your only cat. Why would you need someone else when youve got me? Ill always be there with ...

Ill always be there with you and I wont take any vacation days. I dont mind overtime and weekend work. Youd think that with so many positive things Ive got going that not liking other cats wouldnt be a problem. But its a tough job market out there and Ive been working this temporary job for a year now, waiting for someone to give me the break I need.
My hobbies are playing with all sorts of cat toys. The shelter gave me an honorary MST (Master of String Toys) because Im so good at catching them. I also like to play laser light and catch the mouse. And I like running the crazy cat dash through the reception area! My references will confirm that Ive got a gentle nature and am very sweet. Off the record, I like to give little kisses and will say hi by touching my pink nose to yours.
I was born 2007 and have been at the shelter since March 2009.
So, when can I start?
Here's some news! I'm the blogger for the office area. My recently adopted friend, Grayson, who was doing the blog before, told Daisy and me that we should continue the blog after he left. He couldn't decide who to pass it on to, so he picked both of us. Daisy has been at the shelter since May 2009 and I arrived in March 2009. We both really need a permanent home. Let's blog!!!
KAMI'S BLOG
- 6/10/10 -- Today was a normal day at the office. Three nice people were working so I have some company. Then, of course, there are lots of people coming and going: volunteers, adopters, people dropping off donations. Even a dog came in. Do you want to see where I live? Here's a video of the reception area. I share it with a senior cat named, Amy. She's ok, even though she's a cat! Don't tell her I said that though. I wouldn't want her to think I liked her or anything.
- 6/19 -- There was a garage sale at the shelter this weekend, so the reception area was crowded with volunteers coming to say hi to the cats. I got tired after a while and just slept through all the commotion. BTW, just because I'm the greeter cat, it doesn't mean that I'm not up for adoption. I am definitely up for adoption!
- 6/27 -- A very important visitor came to see me. It was the person that rescued me. She told everyone my sad story. I used to have owners, but they never let me indoors. Their dog used to chase me and I was scared what would happen if it caught me. Their children used to terrorize me and do bad things to me. I moved to a neighbor's porch where I felt safe. She didnt mind that I stayed there because she knew what my life was like. If the weather was bad, I'd hide in her garage. Sometimes Id get locked in by mistake but she always came home within a few hours. But once she left for three days and I didn't have any food or water. If she had been gone longer, I might not have survived. She worried about me living on my own with no one to protect me so she brought me to Animal Aid. She told my owners, but they didnt care. I suppose if you met me now and saw what a happy-go-lucky cat I was, youd never suspect what I had been through. I've never experienced a caring, loving family. I wonder how much longer I will have to wait until I have a real home.
- 7/10 -- I had a visitor today. She was very excited to meet me but she found another cat she liked better. That happens a lot. They meet me first, then once they go into the main room, they fall in love with someone else and forget about me. I know there is a family for me somewhere, isn't there?
- 7/18 -- A couple months ago a nice family came to visit me. We all got along really well and the man played on the floor with me. I had a lot of fun and I thought they did too. They visited twice and I hoped they would be taking me home, but I never saw them again -- until yesterday!!! They filled out an adoption application. If everything works out, I'll be going home soon!!! I am so excited!!!!
- 7/21 -- They told me the application looks good, and I should feel optimistic! I could be going home soon!!!
- 7/23 -- It's official! I'm going home tomorrow! I am so excited. I love my new mom and dad. I'll blog tomorrow to say goodbye. I'm so happy!!!!
- 7/24 -- I've been in a great mood all day. I know I'm going home. Today is the day! I gave my blogger a little kiss to say goodbye and she wished me well. Lisa put my new collar on and is getting the carrier ready for me. It's nearly time!
Before I go, I want to say Good Luck to the kitties I'm leaving behind, especially long term residents and fellow bloggers, Mitzi, Monty, and Cricket who have all been here over a year. Be strong kitties, I know there's a family out there for you.
Thanks to everyone at Animal Aid for looking after me. Bye, Amy. You were an ok friend.
Bye!
Love,
Kami
