7/18/13: Smiley is a very friendly and sweet-natured guy. He's a nearly 6 year old Pit Bull/Pointer/Lab mix. He's a good-looking dog with a great smile. Smiley loves people.  He's a pretty calm guy and he really enjoys just hanging out with people.


Smiley is very bright. He knows some obedience commands and is a fast learner. He's very food motivated.  He keeps his kennel very clean and we expect him to house train easily.  He loves playing fetch, but recently he's developed some arthritis in his spine  and front legs so that's slowed him down some.  He takes medication for his arthritis. He can still play some fetch but has to be careful not to overdo it, and he loves going for shorter walks.  He walks nicely on a leash even when he's around other dogs.  He also enjoys wading in the baby pools at our shelter.

Smiley gets along with some but not all dogs. He does best with calm dogs. If you have a dog you can make arrangements with us to bring your dog in to meet Smiley so that we can determine if they'd get along in a home together.

Smiley has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms. He weighs 40 lbs. He's been with us for a long time and we'd love to find a forever home for this sweet guy.

We transferred Smiley to our shelter from the KCK Animal Control shelter. He was in the city shelter because his owner lived in KCK where Pit Bull mixes are illegal due to a breed discriminatory ban.

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, 5 lbs of Science Diet, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our pets, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the pet home with you that same day.
