Meet Jake

I'M A SPECIAL NEEDS KITTY WITH FIV THAT IS LOOKING FOR A HOME TO CALL MY OWN. PLEASE READ MY SAD STORY.

Hi there! My name is Jake and I;m a 5 year old, black, male kitty that weighs about 14 pounds. Io;m full of love and a lot of affection. I would hope that you can read my story and see if you or anyone else would consider giving me a loving, forever home that I can call my very own. You see, I was dropped off at the vet’s office for a checkup and when my previous owners found out that I have FIV, they didn;t want me anymore. They left me all alone at the vet and didn’t pick me back up. The kind folks at the vet’s office tried to find me a good home but I was there for such a long time and no one would come to see me. Because I have FIV, they had to have me secluded from the other kitties at the office. I was put in a back room, in a small cage, where I seldom saw visitors and it was kinda dark. The staff at the office worked very hard and they were busy all the time. They really didn’t have time to spend with me. A kind worker took me out of the office and put me in a temporary room in her home where I can see the sun shine and I have room to stretch and run around. She can’t keep me there forever, but at least I have a nice place to live for a little bit. I’m not allowed to leave the room so I hope that one day I’ll have a whole house to live in. Could that house be yours? About me?...Well, I have FIV. It’s Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. I can live to have a normal life but an infection could lead to a state of immune deficiency that can hinder my ability to protect against other infections. Normal things like bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc. that are found in the environment may not affect healthy animals, but it can cause severe illness in me. FIV is only contagious to other kitties so I should only go to a home where I’m the only cat or with other kitties that have FIV. FIV does not affect other pets or people. Please go to http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures/fiv.html for more information about FIV….My foster mommy has a dog and I think we get along. Dogs are cool by me! Along with my FIV, I may be a bit overweight. That might not be a bad thing since there will be a time where I will get very sick and I will lose weight quickly. It may be better if I have more meat on my bones, but I could stand to lose a little weight, though. I walk a little funny since I’m carrying some extra baggage. There’s just more of me to love! Now, some positive news about me. I crave attention and I love people. I’m very fond of all kinds of toys and especially the ones with cat nip in them! I follow my foster mommy around my room and I come when I’m called. I love being pet and having my belly rubbed too. When my foster mommy gives me a hug, I never want her to let me go. I’ll sit in her lap for as long as I can because I love being around or on people. I miss her when she has to leave me. I have feelings and I get scared and lonely sometimes. I have dreams that one day I will have a family and a home that I can call my own one day. From all that I’ve been through lately, I feel that I should transition easily to a new home. I was a bit scared the first time I was in a new place and I hid under the bed for a few hours but I got used to my new surroundings pretty quickly and began to feel at home. I know it’s not my real home but it’ll do for now till someone out there comes to my rescue and gives me a chance to show them that I can put a smile on your face every day. I need love too just like you do. I’m normal in so many ways. I want a family to love me and give me a good home just like any other kitty out there. By the way, I’m up to date with all of my shots and all of my other tests came back normal. I’m already neutered so that means that I can go home with you today! Oh, and you don’t have to worry about supplies. I come with a litter box, food/water bowls, some toys, a brush and food to last about a month. They say that pets are little gifts of affection and I have a lot of that to give!

WHY YOU SHOULD ADOPT A BLACK KITTY
Why Black?

Black is slimming…Black is elegant…Black is sophisticated…Black is the color of power and authority…Black is considered stylish and timeless…Black kitty hairs won’t show up on that perfect little black dress !

Did You Know?

• Black cats are considered good luck in England, Japan, and Australia!
• Some believe a bride will have luck on her big day if a black cat sneezes near her!
• In Scotland, finding a black cat on your porch is a sign of riches and happiness to come!
• Some believe stroking the fur of black cats brings health and wealth!
• Having a black cat enter your home is also thought to bring good luck!

Why You Should Consider Adopting A Black Cat:

Black cats tend to be the most overlooked in shelters. They are statistically-proven to be more difficult to adopt from shelter locations, despite being sweet, friendly, affectionate and well-adjusted like their more colorful counterparts. Remember black cats are the same as any felines – lovable, affectionate companions that give years of unconditional love and friendship!
